About the Job

This position is in a laboratory of Dr. Michael Lee who is interested defining the pathologic mechanisms for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and Parkinson's Disease (PD) using cellular and transgenic mouse models. The candidate will work with one of the Senior Scientist/Postdoctoral Scientist under the Principal Investigator. The candidate will perform complex procedures such as screening and maintaining multiple transgenic mouse cohorts, routine behavioral observations and testing, preparation of mouse tissues for histological and biochemical analysis, perform biochemical and histological analysis of mouse brains, and establishing and analysis of tissue culture models.

(45% effort) Aid and/or perform biochemical and histological analysis of mouse brain. Perform euthanasia and fixation of mouse brain. Perform routine histochemical and immunohistochemical analysis, including immunofluorescence analysis. The latter task will require development of immunohistochemical procedures for new antigens, preliminary analysis of the histological sections, and imaging of the tissues using confocal microscopy. Perform mouse brain dissections and subcellular fractionations for immunoblot and/or proteomic analysis. Perform immunoblot and/or other biochemical analysis of mouse brain fractions.

(35% effort) Manage transgenic mouse colony and perform behavioral observations. Perform mouse husbandry, including setting-up mating, weaning offsprings, and collection of tail biopsies. Identify transgenic mice by purification and isolation of tail DNA and analysis via PCR and agarose gel electrophoresis. The person will evaluate/analyze the results of the PCR screening and enter the results into the mouse colony data base.
Perform routine subjective monitoring of transgenic mouse cohorts for development of motoric abnormalities. Perform standardized assessment of motoric function and cognitive function. This task will also require basic statistical analysis (calculations of mean, standard deviation, basic graphing and other functions using MS-excel and/or Graph-Pad software) of collected data. The person will also aid and/or perform pharmaceutical treatment(s) of transgenic and non-transgenic mouse.

(15%) Aid and/or perform cell culture studies. Maintain cultures of various cell lines required for experimental studies, establish primary neural cell cultures, and perform biochemical and histological analysis.

(5% effort) Prepare weekly progress to present at weekly lab meetings.

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials

Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience or related field (e.g. Biology, Psychology) or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years.
* Must be willing to work with mouse model of Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's Disease.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior laboratory experience with rodent handling/behavior, cell culture, biochemistry, and/or molecular biology.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $21.63/hour ($45,000 annually) to $24.04 ($50,000 annually); depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
