Next-Gen Bio Learning Network Summer Undergraduate Internship

Are you interested in modern biology? Are you also interested in teaching?

The Next-Gen Bio Learning Network is a group of community college faculty and research scientists with a goal of supporting college students to engage with biological data literacy skills. We are looking for an undergraduate student interested in supporting the development of curriculum resources that will be used in community college courses across Washington state.

Specifically, the candidate will work in collaboration with ISB educators, community college faculty, and scientists to design, write, and organize materials that community college faculty will access during the school year. The candidate will participate at the ISB facility in Seattle from June 23 - August 29 with the potential to continue participation virtual or hybrid through the academic year.

Additionally, the selected candidate will participate as part of ISB Summer Undergraduate Research Experiences Program including:



  • Participating in events at ISB, including group meetings
  • Participate in ongoing professional development including attendance at workshops, seminars, & team tasks
  • Complete a poster with the support of their mentor and other ISB staff to be shared at an ISB-wide mini-symposium
  • Be included (where applicable) on the development of publications that result from their research project



Participant Requirements:



  • A demonstrated interest in teaching, K12 or college level
  • Experience in undergraduate biology courses as a student
  • Experience with learning platforms such as Canvas
  • Some experience editing code
  • Strong communication skills
  • An undergraduate student, students who are currently or have previously been community college students will be prioritized
  • US citizen or permanent resident



Logistics of research experiences at ISB:



  • Student interns will participate 30-40 hours per week at the state of the art research facility in Seattle, WA
  • Student interns receive a stipend of $625/week
  • ISB does not provide housing but some students will qualify for a housing stipend of $4200 and can choose from a variety of options including summer intern housing at UW
