The purpose of this position is to provide leadership to business continuity planners. A key focus of this role is to develop risk mitigation strategies for critical business functions related to unplanned business disruption and assuring accuracy, consistency, and completeness of business segment contingency plans. Key activities include coordinating business continuity planning efforts and acting as a subject matter expert, working with plan owners and corporate teams to develop, update, enhance, and monitor business continuity plans including facilitating communications between recovery team members, IT, and corporate subject matter experts. This position provides coordination and support of Global Crisis Management function with segment recovery team members and facilitates timely identification, escalation, resolution and follow-up on issues.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • As a team member of the Enterprise Resilience program and organization, provide leadership, business continuity (BC) expertise, and support to business continuity planners and executives
  • Assure accuracy, consistency, and completeness of business continuity plans for critical business areas in order to maintain continued operations, asset protection, and loss mitigation in the event of a disruption and ensure that business teams adhere to enterprise policy and guidelines for effective recovery of business operations
  • Analyze recovery strategy assessment data to identify and mitigate areas of existing and emerging business risks/losses. Develop effective risk management strategies and programs for assigned business segments, monitor compliance, and take corrective action to limit risk exposure. Serve as a subject matter expert working with segment business continuity teams to develop, update, enhance, and monitor business continuity plans.
  • Coordinate the tabletop, functional, and onsite testing/exercises of business continuity plan portfolio and ensure timely completion of the lifecycle
  • Provide support as needed to the Global Crisis Management team by facilitating timely identification, escalation, resolution and follow-up on event-related business recovery issues; Provide on-call coverage, and leadership to the Business Recovery Teams
  • Oversee highly complex business continuity and crisis management activities within the Enterprise Resilience program for the assigned business segments under minimal supervision in support of continuous improvement and in alignment with company strategies, goals and objectives, developing and interpreting policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Research, analyze, evaluate and report on all aspects of the business groups' Business Continuity program(s)
  • Participate in the development of the program's annual objectives, timetables, and resource requirements
  • Ensure measurement tools are in place to evaluate effectiveness of the programs within the business groups
  • Interpret internal business continuity policies as they relate to programs for business segment leadership and recovery teams
  • Develop reports and deliver presentations to business segments' management regarding business continuity recommendations related to programs
  • Participate in the development of communication, training and educational programs related to program outcomes
  • Leading program maturing projects. Ensure projects adhere to strict budget and timeframe constraints
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Required Qualifications:



  • 5+ years of presentation skills including the ability to interface with senior management
  • 3+ years of experience of progressive responsibility/ experience in business continuity and crisis management planning
  • 3+ years of experience in Business continuity program testing, plan development and maintenance
  • 3+ years of proven knowledge of business continuity and disaster recovery methodologies and principles, including current industry standards and practices
  • 1+ years of leadership skills, including the ability to interact with individuals at all organizational levels to build solid team relations
  • 1+ years of experience in the use of Fusion Framework System


Preferred Qualification:



  • CBCP Certificate (Certified Business Continuity Professional)

The salary range for this role is $89,800 to $176,700 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
