Your Role as Director of Human Resources

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for leading the HR function and team at College Possible. This role oversees key HR areas including employee relations, benefits, compensation, HRIS, performance management, legal compliance, and organizational development. The Director ensures that all HR operations align with organizational needs while fostering a strong, consistent, and legally compliant HR infrastructure. This position reports to the Sr. Vice President of People + Culture and directly supervises HR team members.

Essential Functions: Human Resources Operations & Compliance



  • Oversee day-to-day HR operations including employee relations, HRIS, benefits, payroll, and compliance.
  • Optimize and maintain HR systems and workflows to improve operational efficiency.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and support to HR team members to ensure effective performance and alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Accountable for all aspects of Talent Acquisition including the evaluation and negotiation of sourcing platforms and vendor contracts to improve hiring outcomes and drive efficiency.
  • Develop, update, and enforce HR policies and procedures, including the employee handbook.
  • Partner with Executive Directors and senior leaders to understand regional staffing needs, provide strategic HR guidance, and support workforce planning efforts.
  • Maintain accurate employee files and ensure HR documentation is compliant with all federal and state laws.
  • Oversee vendor relationships related to HR, ensuring a high standard of customer service and accuracy.
  • Manage workers' compensation, unemployment, and LOA programs.
  • Handle sensitive employee relations matters including investigations, documentation and terminations.


Compensation, Payroll & Benefits



  • Oversee benefits administration and annual renewals.
  • Managing compensation, benefits vendors, and benchmarking benefits.
  • Supervise the annual enrollment process
  • Manage compensation strategies including new hire offers, promotion, and pay adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance with all payroll, benefits, and labor laws.
  • Supervise timely and accurate processing of bi-weekly payroll.
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes related to compensation and benefits.


Employee Relations



  • Partner with managers to coach, guide, and resolve employee issues.
  • Act as a resource for employees and managers on employment policies and practices.
  • Conduct internal investigations and consult with legal counsel as needed.


Organizational Development



  • Support Senior Director of Organizational Effectiveness & Employee Experience with:

    • Performance management processes including mid-year and annual reviews.
    • Succession planning, professional development, and training programs.
    • Talent development and career pathing initiatives.




Qualifications & Skills:



  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field required.
  • SHRM or HRCI certification preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible HR experience.
  • Experience managing HR operations across multi-state locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage cross-functional HR initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of employment law, HR compliance, and organizational development.
  • Experience with vendor management and HRIS (ADP Workforce Now preferred).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical, data-driven, and highly organized with excellent judgment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.



Computer Skills:



  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now highly desired.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and HR data platforms.

Physical Requirements:



  • Ability to lift to 20 pounds when needed.
  • Hybrid work environment with limited travel.
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for a minimum of 7 hours a day.
  • Valid driver's license and insured vehicle required.
