The department of Athletics at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an HVAC Trades Specialist I. About the Opportunity This position provides the necessary maintenance repairs, trouble shooting, and installation of plumbing, HVAC and electrical equipment and controls, ability to operate building automation through Siemens Apogee and Desigo along with and preventative and general maintenance for athletic facilities and areas including the Milan Puskar Center, North End Zone Suite/Club, Press Box and Press Box Suites, and all other facilities which are athletics facilities - Milan Puskar Stadium, Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium and Coliseum concession, club and kitchen. What You'll Do
- Maintenance and upkeep of buildings and equipment in the following facilities: Milan Puskar Center, North End Zone Suite/Club, Press Box and Press Box Suites, at Milan Puskar Stadium, and any other athletic facilities including all HVAC systems, plumbing systems, boiler, chiller, AHU yearly maintenance and coil cleaning as needed.
- Receive work orders and interfaces with Athletic Facilities office, Maintenance Supervisor and/or Sr. Manager, to review and completed project scopes. Assist Managers and Associate Athletic Director with multi-craft projects related to overall work assignments. Communicate work schedules to trade workers, and helpers creating efficiency and timely completion of assigned tasks.
- Provide continual inspection of assigned area to ensure maintenance is completed on schedule. Recommend major repair needs; assist in developing, updating deferred maintenance.
- Work HVAC/Automated Controls Manager and outside contractors as needed on various upgrades and major repairs.
- Read and review blueprints, O&M manuals for new and existing building projects for repair; develop as-built sketches of completed in-house projects with auto cad.
- Maintain knowledge of state, federal, and local codes and requirements pertaining to maintenance and construction; attend project meetings in the absence of the supervisor and interact with contractors, vendors and engineers as needed.
- Determine and recommend the needs of the project in regard to crew size, types of crafts, material availability, equipment, paperwork, safety checks to maintain proper work and material flow in order to maintain schedule.
- Provide daily or weekly reports as needed or required for progress on projects (repair or new work). Maintains the original scope of the project to ensure project cost control's, weekly reports and invoices necessary to complete assignments.
- Respond when called during off hours to cover emergency situations.
- Provide direction and assistance to HVAC/Automated Controls Manager and contracted service providers on game days for Football and Men's Basketball.
- Operate computers utilizing software programs for Siemens Apogee and Desigo along with others, such as GroupWise, Excel, Word, etc.
- Develop requisitions for parts, supplies, etc. form vendors and ensures timely delivery.
- Intrepid blueprints and specifications; shall requisition parts and materials and supplies from Warehouse for projects and repairs as assigned; responsible for tools and equipment used in the performance of job related duties. Shall leave work areas in a neat and orderly manner. Job duties are not to be considered as specific as to exclude any work which may cross tasks or other assigned duties.
- Install and maintain pressure relief valves, condensate returns, expansion joints and tanks, steam rated valves, pressure regulating valves, coils and heat exchangers associated steam system.
- Install, maintain and repair domestic water, distilled water systems, and demonized water systems. This will include such fixtures as hot water tanks, water coolers, water filters, ice machines, dish machines, and water treatment systems for cooling and heating water
- Troubleshoot, maintain and repair ice machines, Gatorade machines, and suite refrigerators. Arrange for major replacements/replacements using contracted labor. Arrange for replacement parts as needed to complete repairs.
- Troubleshoot, maintain and repair coil cleaning chiller systems such as screw chillers, DX and split systems and boilers, and AHV. Arrange for major overhauls using contracted labor and supervise work of contracted labor to complete major overhauls or replacements.
- Troubleshoot, install, maintain and repair chilled water and heating water distribution systems along with all associated valves, tanks, air bleeders, and coils. Arrange for major overhauls using contracted vendor and supervise work of contracted labor to complete major overhauls or replacements.
- Maintain and monitor building automation control systems using Siemens pneumatic and electric controls. Ability to operate and control building automation through Siemens Apogee and Desigo.
- Troubleshoot, maintain and repair pneumatic and electrical controls for building HVAC systems. Operate computerized controls for building HVAC systems. Arrange for contracted overhauls and major repairs of these systems as required. Supervise all contracted repairs, operate scissor lift, bucket truck, hydraulic lift to maintain and troubleshoot fixtures and devices.
- Change filters, oil and grease equipment, maintain a maintenance log of all preventative maintenance for mechanical equipment as required.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by HVAC manager and Athletic Maintenance manager.
- Perform general upkeep of mechanical and electrical rooms in all Athletic Facilities. Use of shop vac to keep equipment dust free and in good working order.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and replace pool pumps and pool systems as needed
- Monitor, test, and maintain pool chemistry and ph levels daily.
- Maintain knowledge of and comply with all rules, regulations, policies and guidelines of West Virginia University, the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA; must adhere to NCAA Bylaw 11.1 Conduct of Athletic Personnel. Failure to adhere to these policies will result in appropriate disciplinary action including possible suspension and termination.
- Represent the University on the highest professional level with dignity, integrity, and strength of character and will exhibit ethical behavior; must respect the rights and dignity of individuals with sensitivity to problems that may arise from racial, ethnical and sexual orientation differences.
- Demonstrate a cooperative attitude towards all sports within the intercollegiate athletic program.

- Manage sensitive and confidential information related to student-athletes, coaches and staff utilizing discretion and correct decisions. Failure to use proper discretion at required level could result in major and significant embarrassment to the University and/or have a significant impact on image, revenues and eligibility of student-athletes.
- Manage professional and personal time to be handle time sensitive-issues, tight deadlines, extended hours beyond the normal workday, weekend work, and on-call availability.
- Faithfully and diligently execute related duties of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, as requested or assigned by Supervisor and/or Associate Athletic Director for Business Operations
- Assist in the setup and operation of all WVU sporting events even those outside of normal hours.
Pay Grade:
Qualifications
- Highschool diploma or GED
- Must have one of the follow: -2 years experience in general trades building maintenance experience in the areas/of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or other craft trades
- Completion of an associate degree in related area
- Completion of a 2-year accredited vocational craft trades program

- Demonstrate ability to cut, bend, thread, hang, support various types of pipe (copper, black, PVC, etc.)
- Demonstrate proper installation of valves, valve assemblies, pipe fittings, and couplers.
- Demonstrate the ability to recognize and completed the proper installation of HVAC controls, electrical and pneumatic.
- Demonstrate the ability to modify and install metal and flex duct systems, diffusers, return grilles, balancing dampers.
- Demonstrate the knowledge of VAV supply system installation and maintenance.
- Demonstrate the knowledge for various HVAC filter systems maintenance, repair, replacement and installation.
- Requires on-call, shift work and overtime beyond the normal 37.5 work week.
- Maintain high standard of ethics and integrity related to intercollegiate athletics.
- Obtain and maintain knowledge of NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics.
- Obtain and maintain knowledge of NCAA and conference guidelines, policies, rules and regulations.
Requirements
Licenses/Certifications
- Valid Driver's License to operate department vehicles.
- Obtain EPA section 608 certification within 90days
Physical Demands & Physical Coordination
- Requires standing, stooping, bending, climbing, and working in uncomfortable positions. Frequent handling of objects weighing 25 pounds and occasionally lifting objects weighing 75 pounds.
