The Opportunity:

The Assistant Childcare Teacher will build connections with the children and create developmentally appropriate activities that help develop their language, social/emotional, cognitive, and fine/gross motor skills. Other primary functions are guiding interns and volunteers in their interactions with the children and delegating tasks that need to be completed and interactions with parents.

They must demonstrate the ability to act responsibly and independently, be aware of safety concerns and protect children accordingly. This individual must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well to children and adults, and carry out responsibilities in accordance with the school's educational philosophy and mission.

Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for an assigned classroom for which he/she implements programs and activities appropriate for the developmental level of the child; evaluates the developmental growth of the children and organizes activities which meet their individual needs; supervises the daily routine of the children's activities, creating environments where children can function and learn on their own and at their own rate of development.
  • Implements curriculum, learning activities, and teaching strategies that meet unique needs of all children. Creates lesson plans which include individualized developmental goals and Early Learning and Developmental Standards Birth to Kindergarten.
  • Completes daily information sheets for parents. Maintains strong school-parent relations; offers communication with families on a regular basis through written notes, newsletters, phone calls or e-mail.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to keep the total operation of the class and/or center running in a smooth and safe manner. Accepts classroom re-assignment if needed.
  • Knows proper emergency protocol and is able to act accordingly.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 0+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:


  • DCF staff credential
  • Knowledge of Project Approach
  • Knowledge of National Accreditation Standards
  • Knowledge of Conscious Discipline
  • Experience in a NAEYC accredited center
