Senior Environmental Science Technician

This position requires a minimum of two years providing field support for environmental science projects, and biological t and: 1) prior work demonstrating applicant's dependability, attention to detail, and productivity; 2) experience conducting field data collection and sampling following established procedures in forest, stream and/or wetland habitats, 3) experience processing soil samples including drying and sieving, 4) operating and troubleshooting laboratory equipment (such as balances, pH meters), 5) the demonstrated ability to summarize data in spreadsheets; 6) the demonstrated ability to productively work independently and within a team framework; and, 7) possess a valid driver's license. Physical requirements: include the ability to: 1) lift analytical instruments or field supplies/samples (20 to 30 lbs); 2) walk over rough terrain in the field, and 3) work proficiently with computer keyboards and screens.

Academic Requirements:

B.S. in Environmental Science, Ecology, Soil Science, Forestry or related field.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist as requested multi-disciplinary research teams conducting research on the effects of environmental stressors (e.g., contaminated soils) and soil amendments (e.g. biochar) on soil properties at remote field sites and on plant populations in greenhouses, as requested on a part-time as needed basis, by 1) collecting soil samples at remote field sites; 2) assisting in the installation and removal of environmental monitoring instrumentation from remote field sites; 3) preparing field plots for plant studies by adding soil amendments; 4) transplanting native plants into field plots: 5) maintaining plant populations (e.g., watering and fertilizing); 6) summarizing and graphing experimental data; 7) processing plant and soil samples for chemical analysis, including freezing, drying, sieving, sorting, grinding, weighing and data entry; 8) cleaning research labs, growth chambers and greenhouses; and 9) conducting and performing other tasks and duties as assigned. Plant care responsibilities will include weekend and holiday watering as needed to maintain ongoing studies.
