Position Highlights & Primary Responsibilities:



  • Examine Patients: Conduct thorough examinations to diagnose retinal diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachment.
  • Diagnostic Tests: Interpret results from tests like Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), fluorescein angiography, and visual field testing.
  • Medications and Injections: Administer or prescribe medications and provide intraocular injections for conditions like wet age-related macular degeneration. Medicare Advantage focus on quality and affordability
  • Procedures: Performs Panretinal Photocoagulation and focal lasers as indicated by pathology.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about treatment options and disease management.
  • Collaboration: Work with other healthcare professionals to manage systemic diseases affecting the eye, such as diabetes.
  • Stay Updated: Keep up with the latest research and advancements in retinal disease treatment.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain detailed patient records, documenting all procedures, diagnoses, treatments, and progress.
  • Patient volume: 22-25 patients per day
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8-5 with no weekends
  • Call time: Minimal
  • Referrals: Built in from Primary and Specialty Care from large collegial group

Required Qualifications:



  • Medical Degree: A Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Residency: Completion of a residency in Ophthalmology
  • Fellowship: Vitreoretinal Fellowship
  • Licensure: Valid New Mexico medical license to practice as an ophthalmologist or ability to attain prior to starting
  • Board Certification: Ophthalmology
  • Skills: Proficiency in diagnostic techniques, surgical skills, patient management, staying current with medical advancements, retina injections and laser retina procedures



The salary range for this role is $333,000 to $563,000 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
