Overview

LMI is a consultancy dedicated to improving the business of government, drawing from deep expertise in advanced analytics, digital services, logistics, and management advisory services. Established in 1961, LMI is a trusted third party to federal civilian, national security, and defense agencies, operating free of commercial and political bias. For nearly 60 years, LMI has worked with 40 government agencies. We believe government can make a difference, and we seek talented, hardworking, mission-driven people who share that conviction.

Who We Are

We're not here to maintain the status quo - we're here to rewrite it and innovate at the pace of need. Our team is laser-focused on creating cutting-edge RFID solutions for the DoD that bring passive and active RFID tech to life, solving tough integration challenges across global sites. We're a get-after-it kind of company where initiative is rewarded, and innovation is our default setting. If you're ready to dive in, take ownership, and ship real value, keep reading.

Responsibilities

The Opportunity
We're looking for a Head of Mission Engineering - part field lead, part systems thinker, part UX detective - to take point on the technical delivery of our RFID deployments across the Army, Navy, Air Force, and beyond. You'll conduct site surveys, run demos, map out workflows, and work hand-in-hand with users to define requirements and initial features. You'll own the early phase of solutioning, translating operational needs into smart, scalable systems that our core product teams can build.

You'll be the technical face of the program for each contract - the one who makes sure what we deliver actually works, in real-world environments, with real users, under real constraints.

What You'll Do

Run Point on Technical Delivery - Lead the early-phase solutioning for all contract awards, serving as the responsible technical authority for each RFID deployment.
  • Get in the Field - Conduct site visits, site surveys, and on-the-ground demos to understand workflows, infrastructure, and user pain points.
  • Turn Ops into Features - Document process maps, UX needs, and mission use cases to generate the first wave of user stories and epics for the product team.
  • Collaborate and Communicate - Work closely with stakeholders, contract leads, engineers, and product managers to ensure mission needs are clearly understood and technically viable.
  • Bridge the Gap - Act as the connective tissue between DoD operators and our internal engineering team, ensuring we build the right thing the first time.
  • Own Mission Outcomes - From kickoff to handoff, you're accountable for the technical setup, configuration, and successful delivery of each unique implementation.

Qualifications

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in technical solution delivery, systems integration, or field engineering.
  • Strong understanding of both hardware and software systems (RFID a big plus).
  • Experience working with the DoD or similar operational environments.
  • Comfortable running demos, facilitating workshops, and getting your hands dirty during site visits.
  • Exceptional communicator and collaborator - you know how to lead both users and engineers toward a shared solution.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance in a timely manner is required. (Active clearance preferred) Please note, a US Citzenship is required to obtain a clearance.

Bonus Points For:

  • Experience with RFID system installs or asset tracking solutions.
  • Background in UX research, workflow analysis, or systems engineering.
  • Working knowledge of DoD IT environments, procurement cycles, or logistics operations.
  • You've written a user story based on a sketch on a whiteboard - and it worked.

Why Join Us?
You'll help shape the future of how the military tracks and manages equipment - from arms rooms to aircraft hangars. This is more than a job; it's your chance to drive outcomes that matter.

  • Competitive salary.
  • An all-in team that backs bold ideas and gets after it.

Target salary range: $140,000-195,000
