Overview

NV5 is recruiting for a Health Physicist to support the Energy Employee Occupational Illness Compensation Act (EEOICPA) Project in the area of radiological dose reconstruction. Candidates will work with other HP professionals through training and collaboration. Candidates should be reliable, mature, detail-oriented, organized, and able to work under time constraints in a busy project-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

    Produces and reports timely dose estimates, supporting methodology, and factual basis for each claim received by NIOSH from DOL under EEOICPA, and for claims requiring rework because of changes in claim information or changes in dose reconstruction policy.
  • Performs internal and external dose reconstructions and peer reviews.
  • Performs complex and in-depth evaluation of physical quality, accessibility, and relevance of discovered data and records.
  • Evaluates medical histories.
  • Utilizes site research documents, reports, and other applicable records to retrospectively reconstruct occupational radiation doses.
  • Documents findings and writes detailed reports that clearly and accurately reflect the results of the individual dose reconstruction, including probability of causation. Responds to issues brought out in the COI, NIOSH comments/questions, and ABRWH reviews.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in health physics or radiation safety.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the fields of environmental science, radiological engineering, site remediation or health physics, with practical applications with CERCLA/DOE site experience is preferred.
  • Experience with dose reconstruction on past projects, specific accidents, or other occupational exposure conditions is preferred.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures used in monitoring for internal and external radiation exposures, specifically in recognition and evaluation of records that either directly or indirectly may be used to retrospectively reconstruct occupational radiation doses.
  • Experience with DOE facilities and AEC, ERDA, and DOE records systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of MS Office software is required.
  • Previous experience with (or desire to learn) health physics software and radiological models, such as MCNP, Microshield, ORIGEN and ResRad, is preferred.
  • All candidates must have US citizenship or be legally able to work in the United States.
  • Candidates must pass a background check.
  • Familiarity with Multi Agency Radiation Survey and Site Investigation Manual (MARSSIM) clearances.
  • Good working knowledge of radiological work place monitoring.
  • Working background in internal/external dosimetry.
  • Must be able to perform multiple job tasks simultaneously to effectively manage assignments and support initiatives.
  • Ability to work under limited direction and apply professional judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions and accomplishing assigned work.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Certified Health Physicist or eligibility for certification is desired.

The pay range for this Washington position is $100,000- $105,000 per year; based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. NV5 may provide restricted stock units, sign-on bonuses, stay bonuses, or relocation allowances as part of the compensation package. Medical, dental, and vision insurance are also offered to full-time employees, along with Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts, with employee and employer contributions.
