Summary of Job Duties:Faculty in the Department of Epidemiology at the College of Public Health and the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute are seeking a full-time (100%) Associate Staff Scientist to support and oversee the day-to-day operations of multiple research projects. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong background in research and project coordination, particularly in the areas of molecular epidemiology and cancer biology.

The successful candidate will contribute to federally funded research studies (e.g., NIH) focused on biomarkers, such as small noncoding RNAs, and their relevance to cancer risk, progression, prevention, and treatment. This position requires hands-on experience with laboratory techniques, data collection and analysis, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary research team.

The Associate Staff Scientist will assist the Principal Investigator(s) with various aspects of study design, laboratory experiments, data management, student training, grant preparation, and dissemination of research findings through peer-reviewed publications, community newsletters, and professional presentations. In addition to providing technical and scientific support, this role involves coordinating timelines, ensuring compliance with study protocols, and proactively troubleshooting research challenges.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for a research professional seeking to play a central role in advancing translational cancer research in a dynamic academic environment. The Associate Staff Scientist will work under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator but is expected to take initiative and make substantial contributions to the scientific goals of the research program. Qualifications:

Doctoral degree plus 0-5 years of work and research experience in related fields, following postdoctoral training, including progressive staff and project management experience required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support day-to-day study activities, including the coordination and execution of laboratory experiments, sample processing, and data collection.

  • Maintain detailed records, monitor study progress, ensure adherence to protocols, and support student trainees working in the lab.

  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and research team to troubleshoot technical issues, refine methodologies, and ensure high-quality data collection aligned with study objectives and timelines.

  • Prepare scientific reports, manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations.

  • Contribute to data analysis, figure and table generation, and interpretation of study findings.

  • Assist with community engagement through newsletters and public-facing summaries, and support the development of grant applications and progress reports for funding agencies.

  • Maintain regulatory documentation, including Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols, biosafety records, and data security practices.

  • Ensure compliance with institutional and federal regulations governing human subjects research and laboratory safety.

  • Support the preparation of protocol amendments, annual reviews, and audits as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned. These may include organizing team meetings, mentoring students, contributing to strategic planning discussions, or representing the research group at internal or external events.
