Description

KLJ Engineering is seeking a skilled Process Engineer to support oil and gas projects through process design, data analysis, modeling, and engineering documentation. This role involves conducting field evaluations, developing process flow and instrumentation diagrams (PFDs & P&IDs), performing hydraulic and equipment sizing calculations, and troubleshooting plant operations. Responsibilities also include preparing technical reports, simulations, and regulatory documentation, and contributing to HAZOP/LOPA studies and Health & Safety Plans.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering or related field (Master's preferred)

  • 3-5 years of relevant process engineering experience

  • Proficiency with PFDs, P&IDs, hydraulic calculations, and simulation software (e.g., VMG, HYSYS)

  • Strong communication, teamwork, and technical problem-solving skills

  • Familiarity with oil and gas equipment, codes, and regulatory requirements

* Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, data, subsurface information, maps, and other matrices for the planning, engineering, scheduling, and execution of oil and gas equipment, components, structures, and systems projects.

* Maintain and ensure quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise engineering calculations and statistical analysis of data relating to hydraulics, line/flare/header sizing, and construction for equipment such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, process towers, aerial coolers, pumps, fired heaters, filters, compressors, PSV's, flares, combustors, and storage tanks.

* Perform professional process engineering work relating to the preparation of engineering reports, engineering drawings and specifications for complex oil & gas projects involving equipment identification, field walkdowns, process flow diagrams (PFD's), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID's), process simulations, datasheets, and engineering calculations including hydraulics and equipment sizing.

* Participate in incorporating process engineering expertise, advanced technology, optimization practices, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end-users, systems, structures, and the incorporation of sustainable solutions with process engineering design standards.

* Conduct simulations studies and utilize process models for new and existing facilities to conduct production capacity assessment, capacity increases, equipment performance and design constraints, and identify plant's bottlenecks.

* Contribute to the services provided by the KLJ Oil & Gas group, field equipment applications and operations, and related practices including process design and modeling.

* Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team to execute project work, assisting with design concepts, diagrams, construction, evaluations, root cause analysis findings, mitigation of overpressure scenarios, project controls, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.

* Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, illustrations, computations, and simulations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.

* Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.

* Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain research and findings to improve, prevent, control, restore, debottleneck existing facilities, or address design and/or construction issues or problems.

* Conduct process engineering studies and surveys to gain further information on a particular design, issue, and/or to plan for future needs.

* Assist in providing technical support for crude oil processing operating plants; troubleshooting major plant upsets and/or chronic operational problems to identify improvement opportunities, potential problems, and remedies to existing problems and improve performance.

* Participate in HAZOP and LOPA studies as process engineering group representative and provide resolutions

* Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).

* Work collaboratively with other professionals, clients, subconsultants, and regulators in executing project work.

* Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to KLJ's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

* Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

* Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, or closely related engineering discipline.

* Master's Degree is preferred.

* 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in process engineering discipline and prior design experience.

* Essential professional licensure/certification.

* Technical knowledge of process engineering principles, practices, function of process equipment, and the application to performing studies and design activities pertaining to oil processing projects and issues.

* Experience with oil and gas piping, refinery infrastructure planning, design, and operations; including rehabilitation, capacity increase, and new design.

* Sound understanding of process flow diagrams (PFD's), piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID's) development, as well as experience generating fluid hydraulic calculations for line/flare/header sizing and formulation of process data for in-line instruments and loads for rotating equipment such as pumps and compressors.

* Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.

* Knowledge of relevant process engineering codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

* Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

* Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.

* Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
