Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Analytical Balance, a division of The Rise Group, is looking to hire a full time Microbiologist for our Middleboro, MA location. This candidate will work with Laboratory Manager to plan, direct and control the workflow in the specific area of responsibility and to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of productivity of the Microbiology laboratory.

Under general supervision, performs sample handling in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations for environmental laboratories. Participates in documenting and performing tasks necessary to maintain the integrity of samples and support the analytical data.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Operate the Microbiological Division of Analytical Balance.
  • Run requested analysis on samples submitted to the laboratory.
  • Document results for analysis on benchsheets.
  • Perform routine laboratory tasks including but not limited to: media preparation, wash glassware and maintain retained samples.
  • Maintain certifications of the laboratory with RI and MA certification boards
  • Research and Develop new methods of analysis in order to improve the capabilities of the laboratory
  • In charge of training new staff in new methodologies
  • Maintain Quality Control and Quality Assurance Program for Analytical Balance's Microbiology Laboratory
  • Maintain stock and other consumables in the laboratory.
  • Work with staff of Analytical Balance and other departments in TEI to increase productivity of laboratory and company
  • Revise Standard Operating Procedures as requested
  • Offer Support Services for other divisions of the Thielsch Engineering, Inc.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:



  • Bachelor's degree in a science related field or 2 years of professional experience preferred. Willing to train applicants.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and manage employees
  • Knowledge of database programs, and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to work with chemical and solvents that may emit unpleasant odors and unappealing test samples.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work effectively with high volumes, meet short deadlines, and give direction
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:



  • Strong in aseptic technique, pipetting
  • Experience or background in troubleshooting instruments such as GC and GC/MS
  • Ability to practice discretion and good judgment and maintain confidentiality

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Saturday through Wednesday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. May be requested to work overtime as determined by the needs of the department.
