Job Summary

The Community Safety Coordinators (CSC), are full-time, non-sworn career employees of the University of California San Francisco Police Department. CSCs will provide high profile, uniformed public safety services on campus, UCSF Health facilities and other nearby sites owned, leased or controlled by the University. CSCs may conduct community outreach, respond to non-emergency calls for service in vehicles, on bicycles, on foot, and perform other support activities for the University of California San Francisco Police Department. Community Safety Coordinators protect University property; maintain order among public and UCSF community; monitor and control entry to restricted areas; inspect areas to prevent fires, accidents and other hazards; direct visitors and answer questions concerning building and/or exhibit layouts; and perform other related duties as required.

Under the general direction of a UCSF Police Department Lieutenant or their designee, a successful CSC will work closely with the public and University units to proactively identify and solve community safety issues and security concerns on campus. Responsibilities include: Responding to non-emergency calls for service; actively engaging at crime/incident scenes; maintaining security perimeters; assisting in the collection of evidence; motor vehicle enforcement as necessary; preparing written and computer-generated crime reports; patrolling specified areas on foot, bicycle, or utilizing a patrol vehicle; delivering safety presentations to community members and groups; and executing assigned duties pursuant to University and UCSFPD policies and procedures. The CSC functions similarly to a sworn officer in responding to calls for service and is a key component of UCSFPD's holistic and tiered approach to providing service and safeguarding the community.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors, including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. The hourly range for this position is $27.82 to $59.14, depending on experience. Department Description

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Police Department provides contemporary police services including criminal investigation, community policing, crime prevention and suppression, emergency management, and site security services to a daily population of over 60,000 people at University and contract locations. Founded in 1864, UCSF includes the 107-acre Parnassus campus that is home to graduate professionals in dentistry, medicine, nursing and pharmacy; a graduate division for pre- and postdoctoral scientists; UCSF Medical Center; UCSF Children's Hospital; and Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute. UCSF is considered one of the nation's premier health sciences teaching, training, and research centers. UCSF is the only UC campus dedicated exclusively to the health sciences. Additionally, the department has expanded police and security services to the Mission Bay Campus and Benioff Oakland Children's Hospital. Required Qualifications


  • Associate's degree in a related area or two years of relevant experience.
  • Solid organizational skills to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication.
  • The ability to follow basic instructions and provide input and feedback.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite and general office applications.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations with tact and diplomacy; and to use a high level of discretion and maintain all confidentiality, work independently, handling multiple priorities and meeting established timeframes with demanding timeframes.
  • Prohibits unauthorized personnel and/or individuals from accessing UCSF records and/or confidential information
  • Ability to use the RIMS report writing system to capture accident and demeanor reports within 90 days from hire to this position.
  • Valid California Driver's License with no restrictions other than corrective lenses.
  • The ability to work onsite in San Francisco.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Basic knowledge / understanding of relevant law enforcement field(s), and related regulations.
  • Knowledge of police communications and ability to use a hand held radio.
