The Laboratory Technical Director within genomics is an integral part of the Children's Hospital Colorado Precision Diagnostics Laboratory team. This role is responsible for of the overall management of the Genomics Operational Laboratory team, which includes issue resolution, support for operations and technical teams, and solution workflow implementation. Also responsible for providing fast and accurate outcomes while meeting patient care needs through collaboration with key partners and subject matter experts within Precision Medicine.
The incumbent will form part of the Laboratory Operations Leadership team reporting to the Chief Genomics Officer.

Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits
Shift: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, work hours may vary based on the needs of the department. With the potential to support weekend and holiday staffing hours as needed.
Qualifications
Education: Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.) in a quantitative field such as molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, clinical laboratory science, bioinformatics, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Experience: Six (6) years' experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Ideal applicant has at least six (6) years in a leadership role within the clinical laboratory
- Broad knowledge of genetics, molecular biology, and sequencing technologies.
- Experience with clinical genomics data, electronic health records (EHR) and a basic knowledge of Python or R, and SQL and a expert working knowledge of data quality, and bioinformatics tools.
Equivalency: A combination of education and experience may be considered.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Conducts daily data flow monitoring: Supervising the daily data flow for all custom and vendor-supported genomics and molecular solutions falls under the purview of the leader. This entails the proactive identification and resolution of any potential issues that may emerge.
- Assists technical and operations teams: The position entails delivering essential assistance to both the operations and technical teams. This assistance is vital for ensuring timely case management throughout the custom system and for providing professional consultation required for accurate interpretation of complex genomics data.
- Deploys solution workflow processes: It is the responsibility of the leader to execute solution workflows. These procedures are intended to facilitate the organization's daily operations.
- Functions as a liaison: Acting as an intermediary between larger IT operational support divisions and the leader. This ensures that decisions made by global institutions consider the requirements of daily genomics operations.
- Collects requirements at the system level: The leader collects and ranks system-level requirements according to their prevalence, acuity, and business requirements. They either inform the innovation and IT teams of these requirements or attempt to resolve the matter themselves.
- Establishes and uphold policies and procedures: Policy and procedure development and maintenance are the responsibilities of the leader. User privileges and access to clinical and/or research solutions are regulated by these.
- Supervises clinical applications: The leader is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, implementation, and continuous improvement of clinical applications. This constitutes a fundamental aspect of their responsibility.
- Develops Annual Work Plans: Annual work plans are developed by the leader. The objective of these programs is to attain performance metrics and objectives.
- The leader is responsible for the allocation of personnel to different initiatives, overseeing their tasks, and evaluating their performance. This requires the provision of work instructions and the growth of team members.
- Oversees the administration of queues: Communications, service level agreements, queue management, and best practices are all under the purview of the leader. Activity and progress reports are also generated by them in relation to assigned initiatives and activities.
- Engages in budget development: The leader actively contributes to the formulation of budget recommendations and the ongoing oversight of the budget. They are responsible for monitoring expenditures, generating budget reports, and proposing opportunities to reduce costs.
- Utilizes user groups in your work: The leader collaborates with user groups to address business challenges that warrant the implementation of a custom solution. They ensure user conformance with the processes, procedures, and guidelines of the genomics clinical application services and provide user training and resources.
- Engages in intricate projects: The initiatives that the leader oversees are extremely complex or contentious. In addition to performing project management duties, they offer technical guidance regarding processes, programs, and best practices.
- Establishes and uphold internal processes: The leader establishes and maintains Clinical Application's internal procedures. This component is essential to their function.
- Establishes and maintain connections: facilitate optimal support, the leader establishes and maintains connections with key departments. They collaborate in proximity with executives to execute and convey system updates, policies, and strategies.
Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $162,119.18 to $243,178.77
