Summary of Position

As a member of our Government Relations department, you will be joining a team that advocates on behalf of NRECA members on federal legislative and regulatory matters and in national policy forums and develops and trains our grassroots to impact policies at the federal, state and local level.

We are looking for a subject matter expert in grassroots advocacy and who wants to be a significant contributor to NRECA's political programs team. This person will identify opportunities for NRECA and its members to create, promote, expand and enhance its grassroots strategies and advocate base. This role will function as a strategic thought partner to VP Political Programs. We are seeking an experienced public affairs practitioner who is passionate about political engagement and the strategy, development, and execution of grassroots campaigns at both the state and federal levels. This is an ONSITE position located in Arlington, VA.

Key Responsibilities

• Serves as the grassroots advocacy expert, partnering with the VP to strategize, develop, and execute campaigns at state and federal levels.
• Manages grassroots mobilization content, crafting messages, toolkits, fact sheets, and social media materials.
• Oversees the Voices for Cooperative Power website and campaign landing pages, ensuring timely updates and improvements.
• Leads consumer grassroots social media efforts, guiding content creation, review, and posting for strategic alignment.
• Analyzes and refines VCP's data for digital advocacy and predictive modeling initiatives.
• Tracks grassroots activities, providing leadership with updates and insights.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Formal Education Required: Bachelor's degree in political science, government, communications or related field.
• 7 or more years' experience in issue advocacy and political engagement programs, government, or an association.
• Experience developing and leading multi-faceted issue advocacy campaigns.
• Expertise in grassroots organizing, coalition building.
• Experience managing and developing engaging social media content for advocacy campaigns.
• Knowledge of the federal legislative process and public policy issues impacting the electric cooperative world.
• Ability to think strategically and creatively to achieve advocacy goals of the members.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

Capitol Hill or political campaign experience

Essential Physical Requirements:

• The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
• Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
