Millwright - Nuclear

A Nuclear Millwright is a highly skilled professional responsible for fabricating, installing, and maintaining machinery and equipment within a nuclear facility. This role involves working from field sketches, shop drawings, and blueprints to ensure precise and reliable operation of critical systems. The position requires a deep understanding of mechanical systems, precision measurement, and safety protocols. Must be able to obtain nuclear unescorted access, including meeting fitness for duty requirements.


Essential Functions:

  • Perform all job duties safely according to job requirements.
  • Demonstrate proper use and care of hand tools.
  • Demonstrate proper use and care of basic measuring devices.
  • Lubricate equipment, machinery, or components per manufacturer's specifications.
  • Demonstrate proper selection and use of mechanical fasteners.
  • Demonstrate proper use and care of portable power tools.
  • Demonstrate proper use and care of stationary power equipment for machinery.
  • Fabricate items from field sketches and shop drawings.
  • Create accurate field sketches.
  • Demonstrate proper use and care of precision measuring tools.
  • Read and interpret detailed blueprints.
  • Perform detailed layout work.
  • Establish equipment or machinery center lines and elevations.
  • Perform precision installation of equipment, machinery, or components, including anchoring, leveling, and aligning.
  • Maintain a clean work area and ensure good housekeeping.
  • Perform cleanup duties.
  • Perform craft-related math.
  • Demonstrate proper use and care of oxygen and acetylene equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience.
  • Prior nuclear power plant experience, highly desired.
  • Must be able to obtain nuclear unescorted access, including fitness for duty requirements.
  • Successful completion of all training including, Radiation Worker Training, Plant Access Training, Fitness for Duty, etc.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to assemble and disassemble objects and operate small equipment and power tools.
  • Availability for shift work, if needed.
  • Ability to support other crafts as requested.
  • Ability to work at varying heights, in cramped quarters, extreme heat and/or cold, and loud environments (above 89 decibels).
  • Knowledge of relevant processes and procedures.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain knowledge of technical manuals and procedures.
  • Ability to pass specific training and qualifications.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including shift work, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to pass all background and screening requirements, including drug and/or alcohol screening.
