Job Description

Summary

The Community Data Exchange Collaborative (CDEC) is a Program of the Public Health Institute (PHI) with a focus on building the capacity of groups to work together to transform their communities into healthier environments. PHI has been dedicated to promoting health, well-being, and quality of life for people throughout California, across the nation, and around the world. PHI strives to generate and promote research, leadership, and partnerships to build capacity for strong public health policy, programs, systems, and practices.

The CDEC leads the Ventura County Community Information Exchange (VCCIE), navigating the intersection of health and social services through information sharing and coordinated care.

The Communications Specialist is responsible for a variety of communication processes to help strengthen the VCCIE message within Ventura County. These processes include setting internal and external communication protocols to ensure smooth execution of VCCIE program messaging with its stakeholders. The work will also include designing and producing Spanish language marketing materials, translation services, and outreach support for the VCCIE including attending in-person and virtual events. Work may also include supporting the internal tracking and management of communications with a variety of community stakeholders to ensure smooth program operations. The individual hired for this position must be able to attend events that take place on weekends or outside standard business hours as required.

This is a regular full-time position.

Work Location: This is a hybrid (both remote and in-person) position based in Ventura County, California. The candidate must be prepared to work remotely in Ventura County and have equipment (or access to equipment) to perform all duties in a non-standard office environment. The candidate must have access to reliable transportation to attend community events located throughout Ventura County. The individual hired for this position must live in Ventura County.

Full salary range for this position: $64,542 to $92,421 per year. The typical hiring range for this position is from $64,542 (minimum) to $78,482 (midpoint), based on 100% FTE. The starting salary is determined using a variety of factors, such as the candidate's knowledge, skills, and experience, as well as internal equity consideration and budget availability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Collaborate closely with VCCIE Program team to develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies tailored to VCCIE's objectives.
  • Maintain VCCIE's digital platforms, including external and internal websites, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives,
  • Coordinate the production of marketing materials, such as brochures, one-pagers, and promotional materials, to support outreach efforts and raise awareness of VCCIE's and/or funder/client's work, ensuring accessibility for all audiences.
  • Monitor and analyze communication metrics to assess the effectiveness of communication strategies and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Contribute to the creation of compelling content for various communication materials, including multilingual newsletters, brochures, and other outreach materials, designed to effectively engage diverse audiences.
  • Maintain VCCIE's social media presence, curating and sharing timely updates and relevant content to foster engagement and awareness.
  • Support internal processes for tracking and responding to communication with external stakeholders.
  • Facilitate the development and maintenance of email lists to support dissemination efforts and increase awareness of VCCIE initiatives.
  • Attend in person weekend community networking events.
  • Translate all materials into Spanish.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or related fields, with a focus on content creation and digital marketing.
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Public Health, or related field, or substitute with four additional years of related experience.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Must be fluent in English and Spanish with the ability to read, write, speak, and translate.
  • Experience with event planning.
  • Experience in social work or public health preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to ensure all communication materials and deliverables and submittals are ADA compliant, and ability to adhere to accessibility guidelines for digital platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to craft engaging and impactful content for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in editorial standards and style guides, such as AP style or Chicago Manual of Style, and the ability to maintain consistency across communication materials.
  • Experience with digital communication tools and platforms, including email marketing and social media (e.g. LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram); CMS/EMS/CRM platforms (e.g. Constant Contact, Salesforce, Mailchimp, Survey Monkey); and content management systems (e.g., Wix, WordPress).
  • Ability to use Zoom, WebEx or other remote communication tools.
  • Professional experience with Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams), as well as tools for document tracking and version control (G-suite, Trello, Asana, or similar).
  • Demonstrated understanding of racial and social justice work from a communications perspective preferred.
  • Experience using online design tools (e.g., Adobe, Canva, Creative Cloud) preferred.
  • Ability to learn new technical functions.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Availability for travel to locations within Ventura County.
  • Ability to develop newsletters and other written communications.
  • Ability to communicate technical information in a clear manner.
