Job Description

The College of Engineering and Computing is seeking applicants to fill the role of Academic Advisor. The primary purpose of this position is to perform academic advising responsibilities for undergraduate students in the Cooperative Engineering program at Missouri State University in Springfield, MO.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Guide students in developing and accomplishing educational plans
  • Advise students about scholastic programs and academic progress
  • Provide information to students regarding university resources to enhance academic success and problem-solving
  • Coordinate (e.g., compiles, verifies, prepares) materials, information, programs, etc. as assigned
  • Advise/provide support to current and prospective students within the Cooperative Engineering Program
  • Perform standard assignments and responsibilities and makes recommendations for improvement/efficiency, resourcing, etc., as necessary
  • Assist in the development and implementation of programs/projects according to plan and/or with guidance
  • Advise students on a variety of academic issues such as course planning and selection, degree programs, selection of a major/minor field of study, course schedules, scholastic probations, and all college/department policies and procedures as necessary
  • Initiate and maintain contact with students regarding academic progress
  • Maintain/update student files, both hard copy and electronic
  • Assist students with non-academic problem solving, provide general campus information, and refer students to appropriate campus resources (financial aid, disability services, learning center, international affairs, student health services, counseling center, and career planning and placement center, etc.)
  • Assist faculty by providing information regarding college and department policies and academic rules
  • Assist with department program assessment data analysis and reports
  • Conduct individual and/or group advising sessions with students
  • Compose written documents (references, verification letters, response to student inquiries, etc.) as needed
  • Collect and analyze data relative to advising and student academic progress
  • Utilize web-based instruments (i.e. S&T Connect, Joe'SS, BearPass and Schedule Planner) for advising
  • Utilize Excel, Word, Adobe, and potentially other software tools
  • Other Duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $42,000-$45,150 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
