Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $43400 - $54300. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Are you passionate about Quality and Inspection? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our inspection department. As a Component Quality Technologist, you'll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.

The Quality Assurance organization provides a variety of services aimed at helping its internal customers, S&C leaders and team members, deliver superior quality to our customers. Quality planning, inspection, audit, quality information, quality improvement consulting, and quality communications are examples of the kind of services that the organization provides.

In this job you will be responsible for inspecting internally fabricated parts, as well as parts sourced from external suppliers (including painted and plated components), made from various machines such as shears, punch presses, and welding work centers. You will be required to work with detailed Inspection procedures using Engineering drawings/prints, industry standards, Oracle ERP routings, Quality specifications, and Instruction bulletins. As part of a support group, each Quality Team Member must be responsive to the priorities of our internal customers. Inspecting Fabricated Parts will require you to use various types of inspection equipment.

As a Quality Technologist, you must be able to demonstrate the ability to select the appropriate measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, go/no go gages, torque wrenches, thread plug gages, and special fixtures provided by Engineering for the verification of parts quality, must have an intermediate understanding of GD&T and have the ability to read and interpret component drawings.

This job will require you to clearly communicate inspection results verbally and in written format. Non-conforming conditions must be clearly recorded on a Non-conforming Materials Report (NMR). All defects will be identified and clearly explained to Fabrication team members and Fabrication shop leadership, or Supplier Quality as applicable. Often times rejected parts will need to be placed on hold while waiting for Engineering dispositions of the NMR. Rejected parts can be salvaged "use-as-is", scrapped, or the parts can be returned to supplier for rework.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ability to follow standardized work / Inspection instructions / Quality planning
  • Keep assigned Inspection queue at appropriate level and contact QA Leadership any time the workload has surpassed capacity and additional Inspection help is needed
  • Complete Inspections accurately to prevent any Quality escapes to Assembly Ops.
  • Document abnormalities on Non-conforming material reports (NMRs)
  • Conduct analyses of materials and finished Parts to assure quality requirements are met
  • Interpret Lab test results and compare them to the specifications to determine pass/fail
  • Complete all necessary documentation in support of Incoming and Fab Inspection
  • Ensure all measuring equipment is calibrated, validated and maintained properly and ensure safety during operation
  • Assist with training new Inspectors, teaching them the operation and use of special Inspection equipment and relevant specifications, standards and regulations to be met
  • Assess existing Inspection, analytical and testing methods and procedures in order to determine how they can be improved in the future
  • Demonstrate strict observance of necessary safety precautions, practices and procedures
  • Maintain appropriate levels of housekeeping within the assigned work area

What you'll Need To Succeed:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two to three years of Quality Assurance experience
  • Good understanding of ISO 9001 Quality Management System standards
  • Ability to read and interpret Parts drawings, BOMs, Sales Orders, & Technical Documents
  • Understanding of and ability to apply GD&T
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Intermediate MS Office skills (Excel Database & Outlook Appointments)
  • Knowledge of measuring equipment
  • Analytical abilities with good attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently in a service environment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where you work with your hands
  • Excellent dexterity to quickly sort through items needed for the manufacturing team
  • Desire to continuously improve as a valued member of a hard-working team
  • Ability to provide technical support for process auditors and leadership
  • Ability to create and maintain accurate inspection records
  • Ability to locate drawings and other specifications required to perform inspection taskable to train Assistant Quality Technologists
  • Able to provide support to S&C partner sites for processing of Non-Conforming Material Reports (NMR's)

Preferred:

  • An Associate's degree or Certificate in a Technical Discipline or an ASQ Certification, and two to four years of Quality Assurance experience
  • Advanced proficiency in navigating and creating Excel spreadsheets (Pivot Tables)
  • 3+ Years experience working within a certified Quality Management System
  • Excellent mechanical skills, ability to use specialized tools
  • Excellent proficiency reading and interpreting Eng. Drawings and technical documents
  • Motivated individual willing to work on their professional development through quality training & acquiring ASQ/ASME certifications

Relevant Work Experience:

One or more years of Fabricated Parts Inspection experience

MAJOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Standing: Most tasks performed in a standing position with frequent walking.
  • Lifting: Frequent lifting of items weighing up to a maximum of 40 lbs.
  • Walking: Frequent walking short distances (total one to two miles)
  • Carrying: Frequent carrying of items weighing up to a maximum of 40 lbs.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Frequent use of carts to transport materials
  • Bending: Frequent bending and crouching required
  • Reaching: Occasional full range of motion from above the shoulders to below the knees
  • Handling: Continuous handling of parts weighing up to a maximum of 40 lbs.
