We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Shot Peen Operator to join our manufacturing team. The Shot Peen Operator is responsible for performing shot peening operations on metal components to improve material strength and fatigue resistance. This role requires adherence to precise technical specifications, safety regulations, and quality standards.
Essential Functions

- Set up and operate shot peening machines and related equipment.
- Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions to determine peening requirements.
- Load and unload parts into shot peen machines safely and efficiently.
- Monitor equipment operation and adjust settings as needed to ensure proper coverage and intensity.
- Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet required standards using measurement tools (e.g., gauges, micrometers).
- Perform routine maintenance on shot peening equipment and report any malfunctions.
- Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, including job travelers and inspection reports.
- Ensure work area is clean, organized, and compliant with company safety and environmental policies.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance and Engineering teams to address any non-conformance issues.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience operating shot peening or similar surface treatment equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Familiarity with safety and quality standards in a manufacturing environment.
- Good manual dexterity and physical stamina.
Preferred:
- Certification in shot peening (e.g., from the Electronics Inc. Shot Peening Training Program).
- Experience with Nadcap and/or AS9100 compliance procedures (especially in aerospace or automotive sectors).
- Forklift or overhead crane certification.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
To perform the essential functions of the role, employees must be able to perform the following activities with or without reasonable accommodations:
- Regularly stand and walk throughout the facility, stand for long periods to perform job duties
- Regularly lift, carry (short distances), and push/pull up to 100 pounds using peer assistance and/or other lifting & material-handling equipment
- Occasionally reaches overhead and reaches out or down to perform duties
- Frequently climb steps, stairs, or ladders
- Occasionally bend, crawl, stoop, squat, or kneel
- Frequently uses hand or fingers to manually inspect parts, tighten hardware & fixtures, and operate machine and material handling controls
- Accurately distinguish colors to respond to sensors, indicators, and color-variable dashboards
- Visual acuity to interpret readings on gauges and other measuring devices
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a manufacturing shop environment where working conditions may vary significantly; the employee will be exposed to:
- Excessive noise (hearing protection required)
- Dust, smoke, mist, fumes/vapors (regularly)
- Extreme temperatures (occasionally)
- Hazardous equipment including forklifts, hand tools, cranes or other lifting devices, and other equipment used in a machine shop environment (continually)
The use of PPE, including hearing protection, eye and hand protection, and use of safety footwear is required
