Reports To: Head of Data Products

Division: Beazley Shared Services - Data Management

Location: Multiple including UK and US

This is a hybrid role, requiring a minimum of 2 days in office/ week

The Role:

Data is one of Beazley's greatest assets and our data reflects the complexity of our business. Our data architecture is in the process of modernisation and rationalisation. Your role will be essential to our transformation into a digital company to meet our ambitious growth plans.

As the Lead Data Products Architect, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our organization's data products to support our business objectives. In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and analyse business information, create data models, and set standards to ensure data quality and integrity. Within your role, you will have responsibility for modelling and ensuring that conceptual, logical and physical models are created aligned to data product requirements. You will work with IT, the Data Team and Beazley's business stakeholders to mature data capabilities as Beazley undertakes a significant investment in modernization, enabling you to embed a culture of data excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Design our data infrastructure and delivery to create efficient, high quality data products aligned to business stakeholder and analytic reporting needs. Lead the design and governance, including Data Design Authority, to drive standards and collaboration across the central and federated teams delivering data products.

Lead and govern the design, development, and delivery of Beazley Data Products, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and aligned with Beazley's data strategy and frameworks.

  • Source aligned: raw data from operational systems

  • Enterprise Data Products: curated, standardised and aggregated data for business use

  • Business Aligned Data Products - combinations of data products to support insight

  • Analytics Products - modelled data used to drive dashboards, analytics, process automation and enhanced operations

Change Management:

  • Oversee change projects that impact data patterns and flows, ensuring smooth transitions, reuse and minimal disruption to business operations

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage the impact of changes on data architecture

Data Modelling:

  • Manage the data modelling team and the creation and maintenance of logical and conceptual data models to support business requirements

  • Ensure data models are aligned with data product requirements and support efficient data integration and analysis

Governance and Compliance:

  • Establish and enforce data governance policies and standards to ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance with regulatory requirements

  • Oversee the documentation and management of data products, ensuring they meet architectural standards

Quality Assurance:

  • Implement and oversee processes to ensure the quality and reliability of data products across Beazley

  • Conduct regular audits and reviews to identify areas for improvement and ensure continuous enhancement of data products

Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Influence the Data Factory (a team of data architects, analysts, data engineers, etc), federated data teams, projects, and other stakeholders to foster a culture of data excellence

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, IT, and other departments to ensure data products meet business objectives and drive value

Technical Expertise:

  • Provide technical guidance on data architecture, data integration, and data management to ensure Data Product best practices are supported and implemented effectively

  • Stay updated with the latest technologies and trends in data architecture and analytics to drive innovation

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Engage with business stakeholders to understand their data needs and translate them into technical requirements

  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure alignment and understanding

We recognise that we need to raise our data game in Beazley and to that end are growing a significant data architecture practice; this role will work with other architects, modelers and engineers under the guidance of our CDO, Head of Data Products, and IT Head of Enterprise Architecture.

* Carry out additional responsibilities as individually notified, either through your objectives or through the learning management system. These may include membership of any Beazley committees or working groups.

Personal Specification:

We're looking for candidates with experience designing and implementing data architecture strategies. Someone who has a proven track record of implementing enterprise data standards and maturing the capability to deliver advantage and enhance value delivery across a business. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate technical data skills including database and data processing design and implementation and should have the ability to innovate, manage and encourage performance, motivate peers, and collaborate at the highest levels of an organization. The successful candidate should have a passion for data and a curious mindset both for Beazley and the wider insurance industry. Great communication skills across all levels of seniority and the ability to represent data internally and externally to our colleagues, and clients will also be important. Knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience modernising data architecture to deliver products and services that make a difference!

  • Understanding of insurance principles and strategic drivers, with London Insurance experience a plus

  • Understanding of data models, standards and tools used across architecture, engineering

  • Experience working with strategy and product development teams to support data needs

  • Experience of delivering data governance and data policy fit for a global environment

  • Team management with experience leading, motivating and driving teams to deliver

  • Collaboration with technologists to translate business needs into data products

  • Knowledge of large-scale data processing and data lake / warehousing solutions

  • Extensive knowledge of relational and dimensional database structures, theories, principles, and practices

  • Experience with batch and streaming processing, real-time applications, event-based architectures and pub/sub patterns

  • Experience working in cloud environments

  • Experience using data modelling tools such as SqlDBM

  • Knowledge of business re-engineering principles and processes

  • Modelling capability with the ability to clearly represent complex ideas graphically

  • Familiar with a variety of modelling approaches, tools and model repositories

  • Ability to translate complex domain specific concepts into knowledge that can be understood and consumed across domains

Salary for this role will be tailored to the successful individual's location and experience. The expected compensation range for this position is $130,000-$140,000 per year plus discretionary annual bonus.
