Position Description

Performs administrative duties in the management and direction of assigned areas within Student Life. Work is performed with broad latitude for independent judgment under the direction of the Vice Provost of Student Life.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Chair the Behavioral Intervention Team. Coordinate weekly Behavioral Intervention Team meetings and follow up on actions plans as directed. (i.e. compose correspondence with student, parents, faculty/staff, third party).
  • Coordinate, administer, and lead the services which center on student crisis, student emergency, and/or Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT)situations. Additionally, assist with the generalist programs, services and responsibilities of the Dean of Students area.
  • Facilitate the University notification in the event of a student death. Ability to research and confirm reports of student death. Be calm and sensitive in dealing with grieving families and friends.
  • Train, inform, and consult with faculty, staff, and TTU community on responding to students of concern and other DOS-related content, includes design of presentations, printed materials, and online content.
  • Build a strong network with on-campus departments and off-campus agencies (hospitals, emergency rooms, apartment management) to provide a smooth transition in student referrals.
  • Case manage students on a daily basis and/or as necessary, includes identification of appropriate resources, record keeping, follow up, and assessment.
  • Record keeping & documentation: Prepare and research confidential information and maintain files and records pertaining to students of concern (Maxient database, assessment, etc.).
  • Report on critical response and nature of response for students. Gather and develop data for reports to be disseminated as appropriate to the University community.
  • Direct the daily operations of the Dean of Students Office. Supervising full time staff and directing the administrative duties of the office, including but not limited to budget management, facilitating the hiring process for new staff as needed, serve as the representative for the Dean of Students Office as needed
  • Perform related work, specialized functions and complete special projects for the Dean of Students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master's Degree required; eight years of professional and management experience in related area. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Qualifications in addition to the required qualifications.

  • Experience in higher education environment; experience with administrative responsibilities preferred.
  • Versed in legal issues and concerns relating to students of concern, experience in working effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and community agencies; knowledgeable in broad spectrum of institution's various constituents and be able to interface with a broad spectrum of the institution's various constituents and stakeholders and able to articulate policies/procedures in an effective manner.
  • Holds education, licensure, or significant training in a mental health-related field of study, i.e. Social Worker, Professional Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, etc.
  • Doctorate Degree preferred, or working toward the completion of the terminal degree.

Pay Statement
