Essential Functions



  • Safe operation of excavator/backhoe/forklift.
  • May build level and excavate land surfaces using graders and other construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of the excavator/backhoe loading requirements; load charts; critical picks.
  • Perform duties with an awareness to avoid overloading, obstruction of equipment movement, working with overhead utilities, etc.
  • May operate and maintain window aeration/composting relating equipment. Maintain daily temperature of compost. Prepare soil samples to send laboratory. Change, adjust, replace and/or sludge spreading implements.
  • Effectively communicate to all site personnel.
  • Maintain daily logs of equipment usage, maintenance, etc.
  • Daily maintenance of equipment
  • Identify, report, and correct hazards.
  • Perform tasks maintaining all health, safety and environmental rules and ensure all work is done in a manner which enhances the safety of the work environment.


Basic Qualifications



  • 1-3 years' experience as a heavy equipment operator.
  • Comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, load charts, and procedure manuals.
  • Working knowledge of equipment capabilities and limitations.
  • AWWA and/or large diameter/large bore piping.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Documentation must be provided at time of application.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to understand technical instructions.
  • Knowledge of load-bearing capabilities of all equipment.
  • Good understanding of fluid mechanics and all of the components involved in these processes.
  • If requested, the applicant shall furnish a written statement from a medical doctor that he/she has had a physical examination in connection with the application, and is physically fit to perform the work.
  • Required to communicate information, ideas, directions with the capability to perform the task or project discussed.
  • Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory and with utmost regard for safety.
  • Pre-employment drug screening and background checks required.
