Safety Coordinator

Job Summary:

Assist with the implementation of environmental health and safety programs and monitor for compliance. Perform activities to promote the maintenance of safe and healthy working conditions directly with team leaders and employees. Develop measures to reduce or eliminate industrial accident and health hazards. Ensure overall compliance with OSHA and applicable environmental regulations, including overseeing appropriate monitoring of facility and processes Utah operations.

Essential Functions:

Accountabilities:

Accountable for understanding and following all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (Wis) related to job duties while supporting 6S (5S + Safety) and Lean Manufacturing concepts. Provide the company with the necessary information and education to keep the company operating in compliance with all applicable safety and environmental requirements. Maintain all internal safety and environmental programs for compliance. Provide expertise and oversight of safety and environmental issues.

Authorities:

Stop any process, act or program implementation that would put employees in direct danger or the company in a liability situation under safety or environmental regulations. Direct work that needs to be done to correct non-compliant issues. Issue verbal and written encouragements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Attend Safety Meetings.
  • Backup for conducting New Employee Safety Orientation.
  • Assist/Oversee Monthly Inspections.
  • Assist with required safety and equipment training.
  • Review trends of safety accidents and incidents, develop preventive actions.
  • Mandatory Programs - write, update, plan/conduct training.
  • Back-up liaison to regulatory agencies, applicable insurance brokers and carriers
  • Maintain Certificate of Inspection files.
  • Maintain Hazardous and Non-hazardous waste material transport documentation files.
  • Provide support for required monitoring and complete compliance reporting.
  • File Worker's Compensation claims & update 300 log.
  • Manage Worker's Compensation cases with the clinic and employees.
  • Remain on top of new developments in the field.

Requirements:

Educational Experience:

Bachelor's degree in a related field including appropriate training in OSHA compliance and environmental regulations.

Experience:

Strong computer skills. Two or more years' experience in safety in an industrial setting or the equivalent of with related safety education and work experience. Experience in industrial maintenance, including understanding of manufacturing equipment, electrical systems and material handling equipment preferred.

Physical Demands:

The employee is required to:

  • stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to floor.
  • exert 10 to 50 pounds of force occasionally.

Certification Required:

None

Visual Acuity:

Accommodations as required for reading computer screens and documents.

Hearing Ability:

Accommodations as required for communicating with employees and external contacts.

Working Conditions:

The employee is frequently subject to:

  • shop floor environment.
  • high noise levels from operating machines.
  • physical hazards from moving equipment and production components
  • breathing fumes, dust and mist.
  • skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids.
  • welding flashes.
  • The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.
