Brief Description of Job Responsibilities:

$25.80 per hour

0.50 cent shift differential for 2nd shift after 6 PM until 6 AM

This job description indicates the nature of production work routinely performed by production employees within the Animal Foods Department at the Smithfield Fresh Meats Corp. - Denison facility. This description is meant to help individuals who may be unfamiliar with food processing and what is required to perform this type of work.

Production employees are routinely required to perform a variety of tasks that require manual material handling and the use of hand tools, and equipment. This work can be physically demanding and will require the use of some or all body parts and muscle groups. Good hand-eye coordination and upper extremity motor skills are essential for most job tasks. Additional essential functions may be applicable to specific jobs.

Job Requirements (Activities):

Essential Work Postures, Movements, Lifting, and Carrying

Standing and walking for up to 2 to 3 hours before break Monitor operate the Heparin Room equipment. Operate valves and controls as needed to insure proper functioning of equipment. Insert necessary chemicals into process at correct times to maximize heparin production. Complete process control batch records as required. Load out peptone as needed by operating valves and inserting pipe into truck tanker and monitor as needed to prevent overfill. Bring chemicals into the room as needed. Fill and label barrels of heparin and load on trailer as needed. Periodically check hammer mill to ensure proper operation. Change screens in hammer mill as needed if plugged. Notify management if hammer mill is not operating correctly. Monitor trailer room to ensure proper loading of blood and meat/bone meal. Operate controls to load trailers as required to prevent product spills. Contact Loadout department to remove loaded trailers and replace with empty trailer. Make sure that trailer tarps are open or closed before and after loading. Restart loadout of blood or meat/bone meal into empty trailer. Monitor rail car loadout to ensure proper loading of product and to prevent spills. Check gates on trailers and rail cars when loading product to ensure product is loading properly and not onto ground creating spills. Maintain cleanliness of Heparin room including hi-cores and draining of mucosa tanks during breaks. Maintain cleanliness of hammer mill area, trailer room and railcar loadout. Being able to understand and follow oral instruction from the supervisors and designated staff

Key Responsibilities:

Be able to lift, push or pull 20 to 25 LBS frequently maintain regular and predictable attendance. Be available to work scheduled hours, which may include mandatory overtime, depending upon production demands. Ability to operate Heparin Room. Ability to climb ladders and stairs. Ability to work with chemicals. Additional duties as assigned by management.
