Starting Pay:

$55,000.00 Annual

The Excel Center is an adult high school that will offer a full high school curriculum to adults 18 and over, allowing students to earn an accredited high school diploma. Students will have access to academic and life coaching, child care, flexible scheduling, college credits, industry-recognized certifications, and much more - all at no cost to them.

Possession of an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card is required

Position Description:

Promotes continued student engagement in an Excel Center and serves as a student advocate. Each coach is responsible for a caseload of students, typically ranging from 65-80 students. In order to support student learning and productivity, coaches build relationships with students and provides resources to remove often significant barriers from their educational progress.Effective coaches understand how to triage their caseloads by managing their core responsibilities while also being responsive to student crises as they arise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The core responsibilities of a Coach fall under the following four primary umbrellas: building relationships, tracking student data, guiding students in problem-solving and overcoming obstacles, and setting and maintaining a positive school culture.
  • Provides support (for example, tutoring and substituting), works closely, and maintains open communication with leadership, team members, and students to support student success.
  • Attends all team and professional development meetings.
  • Becomes part of a reliable alliance to ensure student engagement.
  • Manages and monitor students' information to ensure academic progress. Develops class schedule and directs students on a path that leads to graduation and postsecondary success.
  • Initiates and maintains contact with key community partners (community agencies, educational institutions and employers) to enhance the menu of support services provided to students.
  • Leads the intake process to introduce the student to the school and begin outlining his/her educational goals.
  • Assess students' life experiences for possible translation into school credits.
  • Assists instructors in developing students' individual learning plans based on intake assessment.
  • Identifies and connects students to community resources to remove barriers and support academic and/or personal goals.
  • Manages and monitors students' learning experiences to ensure student engagement and accomplishment of learning goals through individual and/or group meetings.
  • Works closely with leadership and instructional team members to support student success.
  • Maintains regular and consistent in-person attendance.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):

  • Associate's degree or 4 years equivalent experience preferred
  • 2 years' experience in social work, counseling, advising, academic guidance or related field
  • Experience working with at-risk students in a nontraditional setting and/or in adult education setting highly preferred
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong meeting facilitation skills
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred
  • Working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook, School Information Management System, Excel, and Word
  • Demonstrated ability to develop relationships at all levels and relate to a diverse population
  • Awareness of community resources
  • Ability to embrace change positively, strong planning and organizing skills, independent, self-manager
  • Ability to gather and analyze data for informed decision making
  • Ability to conduct effective crucial conversations
  • Ability to enforce school expectations
  • Ability to maintain strong building presence by being visible and present on the campus and supporting school culture and the well-being of all students
  • Ability to embrace change and flexibility
  • Must be accessible for school events, open houses, recruitment events, and fairs
  • Outstanding role model for professionalism
  • Ability to pass a background check, fingerprint clearance, and drug screen, where applicable for position
