Overall Summary:

The Press Operator operates various web printing equipment within the Pressroom. They direct the press crew in the efficient operation of press machines. They achieve or exceed the established standard for waste, quality and productivity levels.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Identify and analyze issues; provide innovative ideas for improvements and determine and implement solutions.



  • Interpret and follow all specifics on the job ticket; ensure all necessary components to produce the job are present.



  • Complete four-color press register process.



  • Consistently balance ink and water for quality printing; manage color press: including ink and water balance, press chemistry, set rollers, color matching, densitometers, and dot gain.



  • Achieve acceptable color within specified M/R standards.



  • Accountable for waste, quality, productivity levels and safety.



  • Complete registration; including plate cockers, kicking plates, plate/blanket packing, automatic register systems.



  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot machine malfunctions; change rollers, change/adjust belts, preventive maintenance.



  • Document and file daily production results.



  • Operate roll press; including roll hanging, rewinder, scooping ink, wash ups, jogging product, web guides, perf/die units, glue, coating, and varnish.



  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.





  • Ensure smooth shift transitions between shifts to gain all information without interruption to production.



  • Provide training to crew and other employees as necessary to advance their skills and expand team flexibility.



  • Perform other (or other related) duties as applicable or assigned.



Required Skills/Abilities/Competencies:



  • Knowledge of operating a 10-color press and 4/C process.



  • Ability to read and write English and understand oral and written communications.



  • Ability to read a ruler; fundamental mathematical skills.



  • Ability to run UV application with minimum supervision.



  • Strong attention to detail.



  • Team oriented.



  • Computer proficiency.



Education and Experience:



  • High School Diploma/GED preferred, or commensurate experience relating to the job required.



  • 5+ years' continuous web printing background preferred.



  • Multi-color press experience required; UV, Heat set, Conventional, 4 color process, spot/PMS, metallic inks. Harris, Sanden, Didde, Drent Goebel Vision, Heidelberg, Komori, Mitsubishi, plow fold, sheeter, roll to roll.



  • Lean manufacturing experience a plus.



  • Previous participation on a safety team and/or other safety training a plus.



Physical Requirements:



  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, rotating 3 or 4 days per week including weekend rotations.



  • Ability to work overtime when needed.



  • Standard climate-controlled production environment; exposure to loud noise (PPE is provided).



  • Ability to lift, carry and push/pull up to 50 pounds.



  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, pivot, crouch, squat, kneel, and stoop for up to 12 hours.



  • Upper extremity motion requirements: fine motor movements, pushing/pulling with arms, grasping and pinching.



  • Lower extremity motion requirements: reaching



  • Post offer, pre-employment physical assessment required, background and drug screen required





Salary:

The hourly rate range for this position is $23-$35/hr.

At IWCO, base pay is determined by job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience, along with factors such as role scope and location.
