Your role with us

At Salem Health, the Echo Cardio Sonographer performs and interprets a variety of echocardiographic procedures including transthoracic, stress, and transesophageal echocardiograms to assist cardiologists in diagnosing and managing cardiac conditions. They ensure patient safety and comfort, maintain equipment, provide education to patients and staff, and actively participate in departmental projects, training, and quality improvement initiatives. This role requires technical expertise, clinical judgment, and collaboration within the cardiovascular care team to deliver accurate, timely, and high-quality diagnostic services.

What you'll do

  • Performs transthoracic, stress, and transesophageal echocardiograms, including patient preparation, image acquisition, contrast injection, and monitoring under cardiologist supervision.
  • Adjusts imaging equipment and techniques to capture accurate cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathology, and documents findings for physician interpretation.
  • Ensures patient safety and comfort by verifying identity, monitoring responses, recognizing adverse reactions, and providing patient/family education.
  • Maintains clinical proficiency, follows current protocols and research standards, troubleshoots equipment issues, and manages timely, accurate documentation and billing.
  • Collaborates with healthcare team members to prioritize and coordinate patient care, while promoting cost-effective resource utilization.
  • Supports departmental development by orienting new staff, providing education and training, participating in committees, and assisting with policy and quality improvement initiatives.
Required qualifications
  • High school Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic Life Support Certification required.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer certification required.
  • Practice of Sonography (OBMI) certification required.
  • Graduate from an accredited school of noninvasive cardiovascular technology / ultrasound or Three years recent experience and at least 800 echocardiograms performed or A student may begin working with a temporary State of Oregon Sonography license as early as five (5) months prior to projected date of completion of coursework.

Additional Information

  • Recent experience as a cardiac sonographer in a hospital based, cardiac non invasive services department preferred.
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular disease and treatment preferred.
