Summary of Job Duties:The Skilled Tradesman - Electrician has specific skill and experience in the installation, maintenance, and Preventive measures pertaining to the repair of electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and related equipment. The Skilled Tradesman-Electrician works under the supervision of the Physical Plant Director and is responsible for the work activities in the electrical trades. This position is governed by departmental procedures and agency/institution policy. Hours can vary and will be determined by the needs of the College as needed.

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

The Electrical Tradesman position reports directly to the Physical Plant Director (PPD). In the event you are unable to report to work, you are responsible for contacting the (PPD) as soon as possible and before your next scheduled work time. In the event you need to leave early due to an emergency or sickness you need contact the (PPD). In the event you are having problems with the task you have been given you need to reach out to the (PPD). In the event you are finished with your previous task and do not have an additional task to move on to, you are to reach out to the (PPD) for your next assignment. In the event you are unable to reach the Physical Plant Director (PPD), who maybe off campus or on vacation you are to reach out to the Maintenance Specialists for all of the items listed above. The key here is that the Physical Plant Director should be your first contact, but that others in the maintenance area may need assistance if all tasks are complete.

Works cooperatively with campus faculty, staff, and students to fulfill the Mission of the College.

Serving as group leader for semi-skilled workers in maintaining campus buildings, grounds, and equipment including assigning tasks, demonstration of how tasks should be performed, and evaluating completed tasks. Overseeing Electrical Contractors and electrical projects as needed.

To be trained in and be involved in regular inspections of fire protection system (sprinkler systems), fire alarm systems and regular elevator inspections and test, as well as other preventive inspections and measures to prolong campus building system, structures, and provide a safe environment.

To work with Maintenance Administrative Analyst and Maintenance Specialists in performing regular prevention procedures, such as monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and yearly inspections and test related to the campus electrical systems and life safety devised such as emergency lighting and exit lighting. This would also include working with the Physical Plant director to create and implement a PM program that would meet the needs of the Campus wide electrical/life safety systems.

Assisting as needed with maintaining campus buildings by performing carpentry, electrical, and plumbing duties such as repairing walls, changing electrical receptacles and switches, servicing restroom needs that could, but are not limited to piping, valves, and fixtures. To address and maintain campus lighting inside and out as needed. Assisting with in-house renovation projects thru-out campus.

Assisting as needed with grounds removing trash, and keeping campus clean as assigned.

Working with Physical Plant Director to make locations ready for all campus activities and events on and off campus. Assisting in moving and/or relocating of classrooms, offices, labs as needed or requested

Following proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is the responsibility of the employee.

Assemble, install, test, trouble shoot, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices, and related equipment in buildings and other structures in compliance with current code and regulations.

Maintains inventory of electrical tools and parts.

Assists Physical Plant Director in writing specs for various projects.

Preforming related duties and responsibilities as well as those un-related duties as required or assigned. Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of required education or training along with the required license or certification in the field of Journeyman Electrician according to ACA 17-28-304.

  • Formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.

Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of the minimum qualifications upon approval of the Chancellor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five (5) years of experience.

  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, and safety precautions in one or more of the skilled trades. Knowledge of the accepted practices, processes, materials, and tools of the various skilled trades. Knowledge of the laws and regulations relating to one or more of the skilled trades.

  • Ability to provide mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates for one or more of the skilled trades.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals, schematics, building plans, and/or work drawings.

  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.

Salary Information:

$38,000 - $41,000 commensurate with education and experience
