The Role
The Public Programming and Engagement Coordinator supports the planning, coordination, and execution of digital programming and content that advance the Council's mission of fostering informed public discourse on global issues. Working under the Director of Strategic Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement, this role coordinates digital programming that engages diverse audiences through virtual events, live streams, and podcasts and provides the Assistant Director of Public Programming and Engagement with administrative and logistical support for in-person events and programs. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, passionate about global affairs, comfortable with digital platforms and technology, and skilled at problem-solving and managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
The position is Chicago-based and requires two days per week minimum in the office at our Downtown Chicago location.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Digital Programming & Content
- Collaborate with the director and assistant director to develop virtual event and podcast content aligned with the Council's strategic goals and priorities
- Coordinate podcast recording and live stream calendars
- Book guests and speakers for virtual events and podcasts
- Write scripts, briefing documents, and scenarios for hosts, moderators, and speakers
- Collaborate with AV production team to produce engaging, accurate audio/video content on deadline
- Set up, monitor, and prepare reports on virtual event registration, audience participation, and feedback
- Monitor online audience Q&A platforms
- Maintain and organize podcast and event video content on delivery platforms (YouTube, Libsyn, etc.)
Marketing & Outreach
- Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to promote content through social media, the web, emails, and newsletters
- Create and distribute promotional materials for virtual events and podcasts, including building and updating virtual event and podcast web pages
- Support outreach to partner organizations, community groups, and stakeholders to broaden reach and diversify audiences
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in International Relations, Political Science, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
- 1-3 years experience in event planning, program coordination, podcast production, or public engagement, preferably in a nonprofit or policy-focused organization.
- Strong understanding of or interest in global affairs, international relations, and foreign policy issues.
- Experience with CRM, CMS and digital engagement platforms and tools, such as Salesforce, CVENT, Drupal, Brandwatch, or similar software.
- Proficiency with audio editing and publishing software, a plus.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Availability to work approximately 3-5 evenings per month and occasional weekends for events.
