Assistant Chemist - Analytical Chemistry

MRIGlobal is seeking a highly motivated person to join our Integrated Defense Solutions Business Unit as an Assistant Chemist in Kansas City, MO. The successful candidate will join a team of scientists actively conducting analytical chemistry projects. The position requires the ability to work with highly toxic chemicals while adhering to strict safety and procedural protocols.


Principal Accountabilities and Success Factors

Successful candidates will have a passion for applied research and developing technically sound solutions to real-world problems. The Assistant Chemist will be an integral part of our team supporting research and development laboratory activities, while gaining a thorough understanding of relevant federal programs, QA/Safety/SOPs, and analytical chemistry procedures. This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance. In order to meet the government security investigation requirements, U.S. citizenship is a requirement.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:



  • Perform general lab duties such as lab equipment maintenance, ordering supplies, and preparing and/or testing reagents.
  • Perform standard preparation activities using an analytical balance, glass tight syringes, and pipettes according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform sample preparation activities according to SOPs.
  • Operate MINICAMS air monitoring system.



Qualifications

  • B.S. in Chemistry or related field with 0-3 years of related experience; or appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in basic analytical skills, including proper use of an analytical balance, preparation of chemical standards, chemical transfer and handling procedures, and recordkeeping.
  • Knowledge and/or hands-on experience in any of the following areas is beneficial:

    • HPLC-MS and GC-MS chromatography techniques
    • Data acquisition software like Empower, Analyst, MassHunter, MassLynx, and EZChrom


  • Willing to work with highly toxic materials.
  • Willing to assume responsibility for laboratory areas to meet all safety and security requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills, problem solving aptitude, and adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Experience maintaining legible and logical laboratory records documentation.
  • PC skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, and Outlook) and ability to learn new software and systems.

Pay Range $53,129 - $60,158

The salary range is intended as a general guideline and is not a guaranteed offer, as compensation depends on various factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate qualifications, experience, internal equity, and market conditions.
