The position performs Safe Patient Handling (SPH) activities for ambulatory patients/visitors, supporting their mobility needs between the patient care areas by wheelchair or gurney, or supports SPH of patients with use of various lifts and transfer devices. This position works within the ACC and TEI buildings, and/or to and from the patient drop off areas including the parking structure.
The purpose of this position is to support patient and visitors mobility within Ambulatory Care, between the various patient care areas and help maintain baseline mobility and minimize the factors that contribute to a decline in patient mobility and functionality during their visit, with a SPH focus.
The position will utilize SPH techniques and equipment in collaboration with other ambulatory clinical staff at times, serving as the resource in the use of SPH equipment and movement of patients, as well as serves as body mechanics and SPH coaches and trainers for staff involved in patient handling.
Must be familiar with standard precautions and isolation procedures. Must be skilled in best practices related to patient lifting, proper body mechanics and testing for minimal assistance, safe patient handling and safe practice and procedures. Must be skilled in handling bariatric patients and pediatric patients. - American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR within 3 months of hire
- Incumbent must complete Crisis Intervention Training within 3 months of hire and is required to complete training on an annual basis
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience/training
- 1 year customer service experience
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend the English language, and perform basis arithmetic calculations.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and must have good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to exhibit a professional demeanor by following standards established for dress and conduct.
- Ability and skill to safely operate wheelchairs and gurneys.
- Responsibly ensure the safety of our patients and staff by adhering to and enforcing the Safe Patient Handling (SPH) policy and using SPH techniques and equipment.
- Serve as a resource in the use of SPH equipment and movement of patients and provides coaching and training on body mechanics and SPH involving patient handling.

Preferred Qualifications
- Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) Certification
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification
- Prior experience in-patient or ambulatory care setting; assisting in safe patient handling, mobility, and emergency code blue situations is highly recommended.
- Knowledge of and experience safely operating safe patient handling equipment including lifts, friction reducing devices, powered and nonpowered patient equipment.
- One (1) year of paid Emergency Medical Services (EMS) or Hospital experience.

Department Overview The Ambulatory Care Division serves Sacramento, Yolo, and Placer counties providing a full complement of facilities and services including primary and specialty care hospital-based teaching clinics, community clinics, and research clinics.
