The Host at LA Times Studios serves as the on-camera voice of key news coverage, helping bolster LA Times journalism into engaging digital video content under the supervision/direction of the Director of Programming. Working at the intersection of editorial and production, this role is responsible for introducing, contextualizing, and connecting top stories across platforms in a way that's both accessible and authoritative via your own intuition, and direction from your manager. The Host collaborates closely with newsroom and studio teams to shape new formats and brings clarity and continuity to the audience experience.

Responsibilities:



  • Act as the on-camera host for news segments that pull from the Company website for our headlines show.
  • Introduce and provide continuity for key news beats, helping contextualize and connect major stories in an on-camera capacity.
  • Collaborate with journalists and editors to develop story angles that reflect and empower newsroom priorities.
  • Translate complex topics into clear, compelling content for digital video and social media. Represent the Company's integrity with on-camera presence, tone, and delivery.
  • Help shape and evolve show formats. Participate in brainstorms, editorial meetings, and long-term planning with the studio and newsroom.
  • Conduct interviews with reporters, experts, and newsmakers to enhance storytelling and provide deeper insights on key topics.
  • Write or contribute to scripts, intros, outros, and voiceover segments in alignment with editorial standards.
  • Collaborate with producers, directors, and editors to ensure visuals, graphics, and storytelling elements align with the host's delivery.
  • Engage with audiences through live streams, Q&As, and social media appearances, helping extend the reach of LA Times journalism.
  • Stay informed on current events, trends, and audience interests to maintain credibility and relevance in coverage.
  • Participate in rehearsals, voice coaching, and feedback sessions to refine on-camera presence and performance as needed.
  • Contribute ideas for audience growth, show promotion, and distribution strategies across platforms.
  • Occasionally, represent the Company at public events, panels, or media appearances as a face of the brand.
  • Perform for special projects and other duties as assigned.


Requirements:



  • 3+ years of on-camera experience as a show host, anchor, reporter, or multimedia journalist, preferably in a live or digital broadcast environment.
  • Strong news judgment and familiarity with current events, politics, culture, and local news.
  • Proven ability to synthesize newsroom content into compelling, viewer-friendly formats.
  • Comfortable delivering content in live, pre-recorded, scripted, and unscripted formats.
  • Outstanding verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex topics clearly, confidently, and authentically.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
  • Proficiency in adobe creative cloud products (Premiere / Photoshop / Audition)
  • Comfortable adopting and utilizing AI tools to support show development, and production workflows.
  • Working knowledge of CMS platforms and digital publishing best practices
  • Work may include weekends and holidays as news breaks.
  • Must be flexible to travel on short notice on occasion.
  • Must be able to receive and process feedback and consistently seek to improve and elevate as an on-camera talent.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Background in journalism or editorial production.
  • Experience working in a hybrid video-newsroom setting.
  • Familiarity with broadcast, podcast, or streaming environments.
  • Strong presence on social media or other public-facing platforms.

The pay scale the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of the posting is $36,06 to $38,46 and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, experience, training, licenses, certifications, and other business or organizational needs. Compensation will be determined based on the above factors along with the requirements of the position. At the L.A. Times Studios, LLC, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.
