HVAC Technician - JLL

What this job involves

As an HVAC Technician, you'll be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing complex HVAC systems and related mechanical equipment in commercial buildings. You'll work with advanced systems including centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, VAV systems, boilers, and building automation systems (BAS). This role requires responding to alarms and service calls, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring optimal performance of all climate control and mechanical systems. Experience in the biopharmaceutical industry is a plus.

What your day-to-day will look like

  • Respond immediately to HVAC system alarms, diagnosing issues and implementing repairs or corrective actions
  • Monitor and adjust HVAC equipment including chillers, cooling towers, boilers, heat exchangers, and VAV systems
  • Accept and log service calls, complaints, and follow-up requests in the CMMS database
  • Check CMMS system hourly for new trouble calls and work orders
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment and related mechanical systems
  • Record system readings and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal equipment performance
  • Install and repair HVAC components including pumps, motors, air compressors, piping, valves, and filters
  • Work with Building Automation Systems (BAS) to monitor and control HVAC operations
  • Replace bearings in motors, seals on pumps, and other mechanical components as needed
  • Assist with electrical work on HVAC systems under supervision, including motor wiring and control systems
  • Report equipment conditions and supply needs to the Chief Engineer/Assistant Chief Engineer
  • Complete work order documentation including material costs and labor data
  • Maintain compliance with safety protocols for hazardous materials handling

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of HVAC trade school education or equivalent technical training
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with commercial HVAC and mechanical systems
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and local building codes
  • Proficiency with computer systems including Microsoft Office, Outlook, and CMMS software
  • Physical ability to operate hand tools, work on ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Ability to work in confined spaces (mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, attics)
  • Comfortable working on building rooftops and at heights
  • Flexibility to bend, twist, reach, and perform physical tasks throughout the workday
  • Availability for on-call duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and energy management systems
  • Experience in biopharmaceutical or cleanroom environments
  • Additional HVAC certifications (NATE, RSES, or manufacturer-specific certifications)
  • Basic electrical knowledge and experience with motor controls
  • Experience with centrifugal chillers and large commercial HVAC systems
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance best practices and predictive maintenance techniques

Location: Onsite
Schedule: Tuesday-Sunday 12pm-8:30pm
Compensation: 34-42 per hour; based on experience

Estimated total compensation for this position:

71,900.00 - 88,000.00 USD per year

The total compensation range is an estimate and not guaranteed. An employment offer is based on an applicant's education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity and alignment with market data .

Estimated compensation for this position:

34.00 - 42.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
