Functioning independently under the general direction of Dr. Kohut (or a designated co-Investigator in the event he is unavailable), the Research Specialist will undertake specialized assignments that require singular skills and experience. With regard to research duties, these assignments will include complex MRI data analysis that lie outside the expertise of other technical staff; evaluating several pre- and post-processing methods and critically evaluating results; literature searches to determine cutting-edge methods in clinical and preclinical MRI data analysis; maintaining organization and documentation of laboratory MRI study database. In total, these assignments will address unique research needs specific to our laboratory. The research specialist also will play a key role in the development of new methods and technologies for research advancement and will be encouraged to contribute to scientific reports and presentations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Research Specialist will advise and report directly to Dr. Kohut on matters pertaining to magnetic resonance imaging data analysis and experimental needs of the laboratory. This may include the identification of software packages or equipment needs that are especially suited for preclinical MRI research. This also may include the development of new protocols or pipelines. The Research Specialist will work with Dr. Kohut on developing and implementing standardized preprocessing protocols that can be efficiently applied to different projects in the laboratory. This assignment is complex due to the collection of data from several species, various imaging modalities, and at multiple MRI magnet sites (3T and 9.4T; MGH Martinos Center). This assignment will require close co-ordination with the PI, co-Is, and post-doctoral fellows to address and satisfy the needs of all experimental protocols. The Research Specialist, as a result of previous experience and training in MRI research, will assist in developing and carrying out specialized protocols for processing clinical and preclinical MRI data. The ability to compile scripts productively and efficiently is essential to fulfilling this assignment. The Research Specialist also may be asked to play a role in the development of new methods and technologies for research advancement. This assignment also will depend on the Specialist's ability to use or learn multiple data analysis and image handling software packages. The Research Specialist will be included on all public reports of research in which he/she has played a key role and will be encouraged to contribute to scientific reports and presentations of those research data. QUALIFICATIONS: 1.MS Degree in biomedical sciences preferred. 2.>3 years experience in magnetic resonance imaging preprocessing and data analysis SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
