The Department of Chemistry at Davidson College seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member in Analytical Chemistry at the Assistant Professor level beginning July 1, 2026. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field before the start of the appointment. Davidson College is committed to access and opportunity for students from all backgrounds and perspectives, and current members of the department actively participate in initiatives that enrich the teaching and mentoring of our students. To support a successful research program involving undergraduates, the position includes start-up funds and a personal research lab in a state-of-the-art interdisciplinary science building. The department is well equipped with modern analytical instrumentation, including an Agilent Q-TOF LC-MS with two excitation modes (MALDI and electrospray) and a Bruker GC TQ-MS. Both of these instruments are in current use and are in excellent working order. We encourage candidates with a particular interest in instrumentation to describe that interest in their applications. The person hired into this position would teach foundational and advanced courses in analytical chemistry. Additional teaching responsibilities may include general chemistry and advanced electives commensurate with the candidate's training and expertise. An interest in teaching courses in first-year writing or lab science courses for students not pursuing STEM majors is also valued. Candidates will be evaluated based on the following application materials (pages are suggested length): a cover letter describing your interest and qualifications for the position (1-2 pages), a CV (2-5 pages), a teaching statement describing courses/subdisciplines of interest and how you would create a classroom environment that promotes critical thinking and engages all students (1-2 pages), and a research statement describing your proposed research directions if hired into the position, including how you would welcome and mentor undergraduates from a variety of backgrounds (3-5 pages). Include in your CV names and contact information for three people from whom letters of recommendation may be solicited by early October. See here for additional information about the area, college, department, position, search process, and specific guidance for materials requested. Preference will be given to applications received by September 19, 2025; the position will remain open until filled. Inquiries may be directed to Jeffrey Myers, Chemistry Department Chair, jemyers@davidson.edu. Apply Online.
