The Davidson College Physics Department invites applications for a tenure-track position in experimental applied physics at the Assistant Professor level to begin July 1, 2026. A Ph.D. in physics or a related field is required before the start date, with postdoctoral research and teaching experience preferred. We seek a physicist with experience in inclusive teaching practices and who demonstrates the potential for developing a research program that engages students from a variety of backgrounds and majors. Candidates should demonstrate the capacity for excellence in teaching, research, and mentorship in a liberal arts context, as well as how their teaching, research, and mentorship can contribute to Davidson's institutional commitment to an inclusive academic community. Teaching responsibilities include studio-based introductory physics courses, upper-level courses, including laboratory courses, for our majors and minors, and an opportunity to create and teach a course in their field of expertise. We also seek candidates interested in teaching topics for pre-engineering and pre-medicine students and interested in teaching courses for students not pursuing STEM majors and/or teaching courses in our first-year writing program. The successful candidate will develop an active experimental applied physics research program capable of attracting external funding and producing peer-reviewed publications with undergraduates. Start-up funds, research laboratory space, and support for acquiring and administering external funding will be provided. Apply online only at http://employment.davidson.edu. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, but preference will be given to those who apply by September 30, 2025. Inquiries may be sent to Dr. Mario Belloni at mabelloni@davidson.edu. Along with your application, please include (1) a cover letter of no more than 2 pages* addressing professional interests and aspirations pertaining to teaching and research, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) a teaching philosophy of no more than 3 pages* that describes your teaching and your approach to teaching inclusively, (4) a research description of no more than 3 pages* that describes your research interests and how they are accessible to undergraduates, and (5) contact information for three references. Reference letters will be requested for all candidates early in the search process. At least one reference letter must specifically and substantially address your interests and experience in teaching. (*) In the interest of an equitable hiring process, we will neither review any additional materials nor read beyond the page limits listed for each document.
