Provides training for clinical safety education programs at WVUH. The Clinical Safety Education Instructor works in collaboration with Security, Nursing Services, Clinical Ancillary, WVUH Safety, Quality, Employee Health and the Clinical Education and Development departments to ensure a comprehensive, standardized and evidenced based education programs are delivered.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. High School Diploma or equivalent. 2. Two (2) years' experience in a clinical hospital setting. EXPERIENCE: 1.Complete a Workplace Violence Instructor Course within 6 months of hire. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Physical Therapy, Public Health, Education or related field. EXPERIENCE: 1. Five (5) years' experience with emphasis on clinical safety and mobilizing patients using safe patient mobility equipment. 2. One (1) year involvement with education activities. CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Provides the new hire introduction to clinical safety programs (LIFT and Workplace Violence Programs) including, the Program Champion's role, policy review, and acknowledgement of assessment communication, documentation, employee role, and unit leadership role. 2. Provides the new hire introduction and demonstrations of the LIFT equipment including overall functions and safety features, sling applications, friction reducing devices, spine board, review of the processes regarding inoperable equipment, and a review of the equipment functions. 3. Provides education, training, and skills verifications for transfer mobility coaches (TMC) in the use of equipment/friction reducing devices, their responsibilities, and LIFT Program elements. 4. Providing comprehensive workplace violence prevention training, communication materials and process for employees regarding reporting and how to handle concerning behaviors, threats, potential or actual incidents. 5. Provides education, training, and skills verifications for workplace violence prevention program for new hires. 6. Provides workplace violence prevention refresher training for identified units/departments and job classes. 7. Schedules, tracks and records training in the Learning Management System. 8. Reviews and updates clinical safety education materials annually. 9. Assesses unit/department clinical education safety needs ongoing. 10. Maintains training equipment and space. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommends minimizing the need for employees to manually lift patients, and limit safe patient handling to 35 pounds. All transfers, lifts and repositioning will be completed utilizing the lift equipment and/or other patient handling aids as indicated by the patient's profile and LIFT Screening Tool. 2. Work requires physical ability to instruct and perform self-defense techniques and defensive control techniques in the workplace violence program curriculum. 3. Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40+ pounds. 4. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
