Agriculture Science Manager - Golden Valley, MN

OVERVIEW

General Mills is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manager to lead our Agriculture Science team. Primary focus areas will be to advance our plant breeding efforts on key ingredients, accelerate the adoption of regenerative agriculture practices, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions within our supply chains. The successful candidate will possess strong technical and scientific expertise, exceptional project management skills, and a proven ability to lead a team to deliver ambitious goals. This role offers significant leadership opportunities to partner internally and externally to develop technology strategies, execute complex technical initiatives, and advance both short- and long-term business needs.

Key Career Experiences Gained:

  • Team leadership and project execution: Lead and manage multiple initiatives and diverse scientific focus areas.
  • Technology assessment: Evaluate the efficacy and scalability of various agriculture technologies and practices across a range of soil science, biodiversity, plant breeding, genomics, grain supply chains, and international agriculture
  • Team development and leadership: Mentor and develop team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment across R&D, sustainability, and ingredient/grain sourcing teams.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ag Science team leadership of plant breeding and sustainability initiatives, including program strategy, talent development, internal/external partner engagement, and budget oversight.
  • Lead plant breeding strategy (oats) and agronomy programs to ensure supply resiliency. Includes providing end-to-end strategic leadership for oats that encompasses all aspects from breeding, variety selection, guidance to Sourcing teams, and milling efficiency.
  • Responsible for co-leading the development and implementation of regenerative agriculture and greenhouse gas reduction strategy in key supply regions to enable enterprise ambitions.
  • Oversee and manage internal and external stakeholders/partners to advance overall technical programs and deliverables.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree(s) in Agronomy, Soil Science, Agricultural Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of related industry experience with 2+ years of people leadership experience working to set direction for individuals and leading a team
  • High technical excellence, including fundamental scientific understanding and strategy development
  • Demonstrated coaching and mentoring abilities in the areas of technical learning, technology development, and influence/impact
  • Proven leadership to build partnerships and advance technical solutions the drive business outcomes

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Background in agriculture-related sciences; familiarity with farming, cropping systems, regenerative agriculture, cereal grains, and grain supply chains.
  • Strong communication, influence, and problem-solving skills
  • 3-5 years of experience as a Manager of People with experience fostering and promoting a culture of belonging
  • Strong cultural empathy and bias for engaging leader behaviors

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • Applicants for this position must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis, and General Mills will not sponsor applicants for this position for work visas.

Salary Range



The salary range for this position is $126700.00 - $190100.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
