The current salary range for this position is $80,800-$128,700 (9-month academic year salary), however, off-scale salary and other components of pay, which would yield compensation that is higher than this range, are offered to meet competitive conditions. Anticipated start:
July 1, 2026 Application Window Open date: August 13, 2025 Next review date: Monday, Sep 29, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Monday, Sep 29, 2025 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description The Department of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management (ESPM) at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Physical Climate Science. Globally, changes in temperature and rainfall patterns contribute to important feedbacks between changing climate dynamics and the biota and result in strong nonlinearities in the earth system's response to human action. Understanding such complex dynamics requires research in the physics of climate change, its underlying drivers, and interactions with the Earth system. We encourage applications from candidates whose research contributes to understanding climate change in the earth system through the use of models, data analyses, and/or theoretical approaches. Areas of physical climatology and climate change of interest include (but are not limited to), atmospheric science, environmental climatology, hydrometeorology, microclimatology, and earth system science. Candidates whose research also addresses climate solutions are encouraged to apply. ESPM is a multidisciplinary community of scholars from the physical, biological, and social sciences and humanities who conduct research, teaching, and outreach to advance scientific understanding and develop solutions for the world's pressing environmental problems. ESPM is home to a top-ranked Ph.D. program in environmental science, policy and management, and to five vibrant majors that span the disciplines in the department.
