Project Planner I

RK&K is hiring a Senior Transportation Planner to join our growing DC office. As a Transportation Planner with RK&K, the responsibilities will include collaborating with a team of planners and engineers to deliver long-range transportation planning projects throughout the DC metropolitan area. The position requires proficiency in a range of transportation planning disciplines, including multi-modal corridor planning; environmental impact analysis; travel trends analysis; strategic, regional, and long-range planning; active transportation; public engagement; and policy analysis. The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers to manage projects and tasks with significant opportunities for growth and increasing responsibilities. Typical projects include trail feasibility studies, transportation master plans, urban roadway retrofits, and multi-modal safety improvements.

Essential Functions

• Develop and analyze project alternatives and multi-modal transportation corridors
• Analyze data, including demographic, travel demand, traffic, and land use.
• Conduct, synthesize, and present research and analyses.
• Prepare technical reports and visual presentations.
• Perform field investigations to collect data including photographs, sketches, and field measurements.
• Communicate project needs and issue resolutions both verbally and in writing to client, contractors, and stakeholders throughout project development.
• Working in a team environment and able to coordinate effectively across departmental teams.
• Developing and mentoring junior staff.
• Assisting in developing proposals, scopes of work, and fee estimates.

Required Skills and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Urban & Regional Planning, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum four (4) years of experience in transportation planning or engineering.
• Demonstrated knowledge of transportation planning fundamentals.
• Highly proficient in GIS analysis and experience managing large datasets.
• Passion for client service, teamwork and ability to work well with others.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Master's degree in planning, civil engineering, or related field
• Professional certifications such as AICP or PE
• Engagement in local chapters of professional societies, including regular attendance at local meetings
• Visual communications skills, including InDesign or Adobe Creative Suite

Salary range: $43.00-$50.00 per hour
