The Concept Formulation (CONFORM) team oversees Electric Boat's concept development work which includes leading SSN(X), Virginia and Columbia submarine capability insertion studies, research and development (R&D) efforts, university and small business outreach, payload integration, and undersea warfighting capability analysis. The CONFORM department champions the continuous infusion of undersea warfighting capability into submarines to maintain Electric Boat's leadership position within the industry, and to ensure that U.S. submarines remain dominant in the future world of undersea warfare. This requisition is for a leadership role focused on ensuring the continued development of EB's understanding of, and ability to predict, the future needs of the warfighter.

The Undersea Warfare Development Lead is responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with key partners (e.g. ONI and UWDC), surveying current and emerging war fighting trends and technologies, supporting EB participation in key conferences and other events, and helping facilitate workshops and studies related to exploring future undersea CONOPS and capabilities. The Lead will be expected to actively use the knowledge gained from this work, and their past experiences, to provide operational context to all areas of CONFORM studies and to raise overall awareness of Navy needs and submarine relevance within the broader EB workforce. The efforts of the Lead are expected to better the development of research into new technologies, capability insertion efforts into current classes, and the evolution of future designs.

Responsibilities include:

    Maintaining, developing and fostering relationships with:
    • US Military Warfighting organizations at Submarine Base, Groton (Naval Submarine School/Submarine Learning Center, Submarine Squadrons, Undersea Warfighting Development Center)
    • Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Newport
    • SUBFOR
    • Naval War College (China Maritime Studies, Russia Maritime Studies)
    • National Defense Industrial Association Undersea Warfare Division
    • Naval Submarine League and Submarine Technology Symposium
    • Office of Naval IntelligenceMaintaining an understanding of global geopolitical relationships, US
  • Military Warfighting Concepts and the employment of Undersea Warfighting Forces across the spectrum of conflict
  • Drive awareness of Peoples Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) and Russian (RU) naval capabilities related to the impact for future undersea warfare
  • Drive development of content for EB participation in STS and other key conferences
  • Develop strategy and content for SUBS2050 and other related workshops
  • Connect the engineers to the war fighters to understand context on the operation and employment of submarines as well as the threats
  • Supporting CONFORM project development, management, and execution for a variety of tasks related to the integration of future capabilities into the design of submarines and related undersea systems
  • Support, plan and execute tours for Design and Engineering at Electric Boat Groton and Quonset Point facilities
  • A moderate amount travel is expected



Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor degree
  • Submarine Command Experience
  • Clearance Top Secret/SCI

Preferred:

  • Experience in unmanned systems and submarine missions and requirements
  • Project management experience
  • Joint Professional Military Education Phase 2


Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (including presentation skills) and organizational skills to manage tasks concurrently are required
  • The ability to simultaneously coordinate multiple different tasks for different customers
