DESCRIPTION

The Senior Director of Development, Corporate and Foundation Relations (SDOD-CFR) fulfills an important role in UC San Diego's development program. Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations (EDOD-CFR), the SDOD-CFR has responsibility for planning activities, setting priorities, and determining effective strategies designed to maximize foundation support to the University. Responsibility will focus on corporate and foundation prospects capable of making grants and gifts of $1,000,000 - $5,000,000, from a portfolio of highly visible, prominent foundations and top-tier corporations where long-term relationships need to be built. The SDOD-CFR is responsible for managing a prospect/donor portfolio in various stages of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. They work collaboratively with faculty, academic leadership, and development offices to create and implement strategies for approaching companies and foundations; serve as a recognized campus expert in corporate and foundation engagement; and regularly have impact and influence on campus policy and program development.

The SDOD-CFR's portfolio includes many of the campus's most complex and important corporate and foundation partners. The incumbent will apply knowledge and understanding of UC San Diego and the strength of multi-sector collaboration to better position the University for large impact grant and gift funding. The holder of this position must be comfortable working with prominent foundation leaders and senior volunteers as well as executive level corporate contacts; and must have a successful record of building partnerships to advance the University's mission.

The SDOD-CFR will be encouraged to operate autonomously and to exercise initiative and authority within general parameters set by the EDOD-CFR, and to represent the EDOD-CFR and the Department whenever necessary. Incumbent will work collaboratively with other units within Advancement as well as the Office of Research and Innovation and the Office of Contract and Grant Administration to administer internal processes and protocols and will serve as a grant and research data integrity officer within Advancement. The incumbent will directly supervise CFR team members, supporting their work and professional growth. Additionally, they will foster an equitable, inclusive, and diverse working environment in all activities, strategies, and interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Expert working knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.

  • Expert knowledge of all aspects of the location, including current issues of concern for both the campus and / or throughout higher education / healthcare, generally. Expert knowledge of the location, including its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.

  • Expert written and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies. Expert skills in making persuasive and compelling presentations of goals and objectives for a location in order to secure gifts.

  • Expert organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills. Expert project / program management skills, including skills in setting and meeting program / project goals and objectives within budget and time constraints.

  • Expert level skills in maintaining confidentiality.

  • Proven experience in the full spectrum of development including: gift policies, solicitations, grant proposals, stewardship, donor recognition and administration.

  • Proven success as a development officer in a highly sophisticated donor-centered fundraising environment as a direct line fund-raiser with five years or more of experience.

  • Demonstrated success at securing major gifts or grants by developing and implementing strategic solicitation plans in-line with institution and academic goals in higher education for gifts or grants of $1,000,000+ from corporations and foundations, both local and national.

  • Proven record of writing proposals for a significant project for grants/gifts ($1,000,000+), directed to corporations and foundations.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement persuasive cultivation ideas and techniques and provide critical analysis, using sound judgment with realistic expectations for prospects and donors.

  • Expert written and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies. Expert skills in making persuasive and compelling presentations of goals and objectives for a location in order to secure gifts.

  • Demonstrated strong organizational, managerial/mentoring and leadership skills with ability to lead by example and encourage collaborative efforts.

  • Proven ability to learn appropriate levels of information about a broad range of academic disciplines and interdisciplinary areas

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and team-building skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, faculty, donors, volunteers, and university officials, with an emphasis on tact, diplomacy, flexibility, collaboration, professionalism, and discretion.

  • Persistence and initiative in pursuing goals and objectives of Advancement on behalf of UC San Diego.

  • Demonstrated competency and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the technique of donor prospect research with the ability to extract the pertinent/critical information from various sources.

  • Expert knowledge of all aspects of the location, including current issues of concern for both the campus and / or throughout higher education / healthcare generally. Advanced working of the location, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.

  • Expert analytical and critical thinking skills. Expert project / program management skills, including skills in setting and meeting program / project goals and objectives within budget and time constraints.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $119,400 - $230,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $57.18 - $110.54

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
