Job Summary

The Housing IT Student Lead is a key member of the Housing and Residential Experience department, responsible for supporting and guiding the work of fellow IT student assistants while collaborating closely with the IT Assistant Director This leadership position helps ensure the efficient and effective delivery of services across the department In this role, the IT Student Lead plays a critical part in maintaining the day-to-day operations of Housing IT, taking initiative in troubleshooting, coordinating team tasks, and serving as a point of contact for student staff The position also contributes to ongoing process improvements and provides input on technical solutions that support the departments mission, vision, and values
With a focus on providing high-quality service to both staff and residents, the Housing IT Student Lead ensures that department technology systems run smoothly and that student assistants are well-trained, supported, and aligned with departmental goals

General Expectations:
-Serve as a resource for staff, residents, families, and other campus community members and should be familiar with the services and opportunities provided by Housing and -Residential Experience, the Division of Student Affairs, the Division of Information Technology, and other university departments and offices
-Be knowledgeable of and able to communicate Housing and Residence Experience procedures and policies to residents specifically around technology
-Be able to respond and troubleshoot issues after hours and on weekends
-Administrative Responsibilities
-Serve as first point of contact and assist with the resolution of internet connectivity issues (wired and wireless)
-Provide preventative maintenance for computers, printers, digital signage, and technology across department buildings
-Organize inventory and track items in storage space, computers, and valuable assets
-Provide updates to integrated systems
-Complete special projects as assigned by IT Assistant Director
-Provide hardware and software support to Housing staff
-Check tickets submitted by students and staff
-Troubleshoot issues with locks and replace batteries in locks
-Surplus items not needed
-Be good stewards of assets such as tools and other equipment
-Facilitate equipment requests
-Help users in multi-purpose rooms set up and use the technology
-Update IT procedures manual on an on-going basis
-Troubleshoot issues with electronic key boxes
-Troubleshoot issues with Toshiba printers
-Provide updates to IT Assistant Director of any on-going projects
-Ensure the IT student assistants workspace remains organized
-Train and mentor other IT student assistants
-Anticipate future IT needs
-Collaborate with IT Assistant Director to purchase equipment

Customer Service Responsibilities:
-Expected to maintain a positive attitude that is welcoming to residents/guests and supportive of the University and the department
-Expected to provide excellent customer service to students and parents by phone, email and in person regarding any housing and residence experience questions, concerns, and requests around technology
-To uphold and maintain confidentiality with sensitive student information
-Expected to maintain a high level of professionalism in communication with residents, staff, and guests
-Familiar with the different offices and services available to students at the University in order to make appropriate referrals to residents in regard to technology
-Wear department provided polo shirt and name tag
-Expected to be attentive to their staff email and Microsoft Teams
-Expected to use 2-way radios as needed
-Expected to use Engage App to troubleshoot locks in Tamiami Hall

Minimum Qualifications:
-Undergraduate students must have a 25 cumulative GPA at the time of application and maintain a 25 cumulative and semester GPA for the duration of their employment Graduate students must have a 30 cumulative GPA at the time of application and maintain a 30 cumulative and semester GPA for the duration of their employment Grade checks will be completed at the end of every semester
-Must be registered for at least six (6) credit hours as an undergraduate student or three (3) credit hours as a graduate student
-Must be and remain in good standing with the Department and University, including no significant or recent student conduct history All Housing Student Assistants will consent to conduct checks prior to hiring and at the end of every semester
-Prior to employment, must successfully complete a background check and fingerprinting as per the Housing and Residential Experience requirement
-Must be available to work 20 hours per week during the academic semesters

  • Students enrolled at FIU, who have been awarded Federal Work Study (FWS) as part of their Financial Aid Award package.
  • Student must be enrolled with a minimum of six (6) credit hours in a course of study leading to a degree or a Financial Aid eligible certificate, during Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
  • Upon credits decreasing, award being canceled, or graduating, FWS employment must end.
Work Schedule

-Will be scheduled for no less than 15 hours and no more than 20 hours per week during the academic year
-Attend and actively participate in any mandatory staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled
-Request and obtain approval from a supervisor prior to any shift changes or absences

$17.00/hour
