Overview

This instructor position is responsible for conducting classroom and hands on training of Electric Boat's Outside Machinist within the shipyard and NRMD. This will include, but not limited to, nuclear outside machinist courses, cleanliness controls, and reactor plant trade skills. They will be required to follow approved lesson plans, perform examinations and evaluations of student performance, and provide documentation via written certification or computer database entry. Other duties include the development of training packages, participation in training exercises (drills), and conducting jobsite training validations.

Applicant will be expected to:

    Qualify as a Nuclear Trade Training Instructor.
  • Qualify as a Radiological Skills Instructor.
  • Maintain all applicable Nuclear Outside Machinist qualifications.
  • Maintain Radiation Worker, Contamination Worker, and Reactor Plant Trade Skills qualifications.
  • Pass applicable exams with 80%.
  • Conduct Deckplate Observations.
  • Conduct Radiological Jobsite Training Validation Observations
  • Recommend changes to improve areas of safety, quality, cost, schedule, and continuous improvement.


Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Currently qualified as a Nuclear Outside Machinist (Previous work experience as a Nuclear Outside Machinist may be accepted in lieu of Nuclear Outside Machinist qualification.)

Preferred:

  • Current or previous qualification as a NAVSEA 389-0288 article 106 Contamination Worker
  • Certification as an instructor or previous training experience desired.
  • Experience in preparation of training materials.


Skills

  • familiar with work procedures, precision tooling, primary and secondary valves, and cleanliness controls.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills and be able to work with personnel from a variety of backgrounds and base knowledge levels.
  • Experience using typical computer software (MS Word, Excel and Power Point).
