CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WORK
The Payroll Assistant, under the general supervision of the Payroll Manager, plays a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll. This position supports the payroll department by auditing employee time and deductions, processing payroll information for new hires and terminations, managing tax deductions, and maintaining accurate payroll records. The Payroll Assistant also assists with reporting and clerical tasks related to payroll functions. EXAMPLES OF THE WORK * Auditing & Payroll Processing: Review electronic timecards and bi-weekly payroll data for accuracy and consistency. Back up payroll processing when needed. * Employee Data Management: Enter and update data for new hires, terminations, salary adjustments, status changes, benefits and/or payroll deductions into the Human Resources Information System (HRIS). * Reports Generation: Customizes and generates various payroll-related reports as needed. * Record Keeping: Maintains accurate payroll records, including timesheets, employee information, and tax documents. * Employee Inquiries: Addresses and resolves payroll-related questions from employees, providing clear and timely responses. * General Support: Assist the Payroll Manager with various payroll tasks and perform additional duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES * Attention to Detail: Strong accuracy and attention to detail, especially with numerical data. * Technical Skills: Proficiency in Excel and MS Office Suite; familiarity with payroll software (ADP preferred). * Organizational Skills: Excellent time management and organizational abilities to handle multiple tasks efficiently under strict deadlines. * Communication: Good interpersonal and communication skills to effectively address payroll-related concerns and collaborate with others both verbally and written. * Confidentiality: Ability to handle confidential payroll information with discretion. * Flexibility: Capable of performing various tasks simultaneously and adapting to shifting priorities. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * Responding to FHC employees need via telephone, internet, fax, computer software and in person. * Spend time sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending and reaching. * Spend extended periods of time typing, keying and reading computer screens. * Moves and/or lifts materials - with or without accommodation - weighing up to 10 pounds. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS * Availability to work extended hours as needed. QUALIFICATIONS * High school diploma or equivalent required (associate's degree in accounting or related field preferred). * Minimum of 1 year of experience in payroll processing or 3 years in a human resources or payroll administrative support role. * Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered by Civil Service. *Pay and Benefits* The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
