The Arizona Geological Survey is a nonacademic research department in the University of Arizona tasked with furthering our understanding of the geology, mineral resources, and natural hazards of Arizona. We invite applications for a Research Scientist, Economic Geologist to join our team. The Research Scientist, Economic Geologist, will be responsible for leading scientific projects related to mineral resources and bedrock geology. The individual will conduct fieldwork, analytical work, GIS compilation, report writing, and develop proposals relevant to Arizona's mineral resources. This individual will provide technical expertise to other researchers, public and private stakeholders, and members of the public to further our understanding of Arizona's natural resources. Duties & Responsibilities |
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead, develop, and design multiple complex scientific projects relating to mineral resources and bedrock geology that complement AZGS's mission. Works closely and collaboratively with PI and leadership.
- Utilize in-depth knowledge to conduct fieldwork to accomplish scientific tasks in support of projects. Work independently collecting complex data and creating GIS compilation with considerable latitude. Collaborates in the development of new techniques as identified.
- Author peer-reviewed scientific papers and technical reports.
- Serve as an expert in mineral resources for AZGS scientists, UA researchers, private-sector industries, regulatory agencies, stakeholders, AZ tribes, and other academic institutions.
- Conceive and develop funding programs and proposals with internal and external partners.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with all groups/individuals.
- Ability to manage scientific samples and data.
- Knowledge of mineral resources geology.

Minimum Qualifications |
- PhD degree in Geology or related field AND a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant work experience is required.
- Must have a valid driver's license upon hire and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
