Position Highlights

The Advisor, MDDA Program is responsible for providing academic advising to current, incoming and potential students in the undergraduate program of College of Medicine's Medical Devices Development and Application. Work is performed under limited or minimal supervision. Senior Academic Advisors should be consulted on highly unusual or complex situations.

This position plays a vital role in building formative relationships with students, driving engagement and empowering success in achieving their academic and career goals with the aim of maximizing student retention. The Advisor will share institutional knowledge and resources as well as interpret institutional advising practices while counseling students on options to satisfy degree requirements. Additionally, they will refer students to the appropriate student success resources within the College, and report on student data, as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Advise individual students to enroll in and successfully complete the undergraduate BS in MDDA degree major. This includes options to satisfy degree requirements, development of an academic action plan and determining education plans, choosing courses, and exploring career options.
  • Analyze, update and maintain database of students. May provide input regarding student data and metrics, such as enrollment and retention information, for program planning, various College communications/media, curriculum review as well as accreditation needs.
  • Utilize university data systems to monitor student progress, identify opportunities for proactive outreach, and maintain thorough and accurate advising records.
  • Build and present academic program information alongside Senior Academic Advisors.
  • Support a variety of programs aimed at student recruitment, retention, major selection, student involvement and general community building activities with students.
  • Assist with summer orientation for freshman and transfer students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong, professional written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Ability to continually improve processes to enhance the student experience.
  • Ability to effectively use administrative systems, databases and standardized software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required. Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher-level proficiency with UA systems and tools, specifically related to student advising.
