DESCRIPTION

The Department of Pathology at UC San Diego aims to achieve the highest standards in patient care, research and education. The Department provides diagnostic pathology services in a wide variety of subspecialties with highly trained subspecialists who are recognized for their expertise. The Department's research programs are diverse and interface with a wealth of basic and translational research programs that are a hallmark of UC San Diego.

Under supervision, the position will assist in performing basic laboratory duties such as making solutions, western blots, genotyping mice, and cloning. Assist in the breeding management of mice. Provide general laboratory maintenance, order lab supplies, and oversee general lab safety training of employees and waste disposal. Incumbent will assist with performing basic molecular biology and biochemical techniques to aid in the study of neurodegeneration and disease studies, including neuron cultures, DNA cloning, preparing viral vectors, PCR, and westerns, cell culture reagents, cultures primary cell lines, aliquots antibodies and recombinant proteins. Performs other tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and one year of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses inneuroscience or biological sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Skill and knowledge of general biochemical techniques.

  • Knowledge of general laboratory maintenance.

  • Proven ability to interact with a wide range of individuals and situations.

  • Ability to complete projects in a timely manner.

  • Ability to communicate effectively over the telephone with clientele exercising diplomacy.

  • Ability in keeping organized, accurate lab records and computer files.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Skills and knowledge of computer operations and programs to include data base, Access, Excel and Word.

  • Experience with western blotting.

  • Experience with PCR.

  • College degree in neuroscience or biological sciences.

  • Experience working with rodents.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $45,999 - $54,079 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $22.03 - $25.90

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
